What does a high monocyte count mean?

I went to the doctor and had a full blood panel run on me, after complaining of a wide range of symptoms. The doctor wanted to test for anemia, diabetes, hypothyroidism, etc. Everything came back normal, except for my monocytes. It says my monocytes were at 10.6, when the normal range is 0.0-9.0. The doctor said it could mean I am recovering from an infection, but wouldn't I have known if I had an infection? Wouldn't I have felt flu-like or like I had a cold at the least, because I haven't been feeling that way at all. Also, if this helps my WBC was 4.4 and RBC was 4.10.

Since your white blood count was normal, a *very* slightly high absolute monocyte count (monocytes are white blood cells included in the WBC test) could be an error in testing, how hydrated you were before the test, or yes, a reaction to an infection or disorder. And it's the absolute count that has a high of 9.0. The relative monocyte count has a high normal of 11, which would make you slightly at risk but still normal.

And disorders caused by a high monocyte count include stress, an incubating viral infection (they take about three days to incubate, chronic inflammation somewhere -- anywhere -- which may not produce symptoms, or thyroid problems.

A higher monocyte count would be of concern. However a count just over the normal range is probably not something to worry about.

Is 0.27 considered high, it's over the normal, and can a chemotherapy patient just 5 months post treatment have a reading higher on the monocytes?

well our immune system can fight mild infection especially if your overall healthy so the doctor is right you just recovered from an infection or cold the also can mean that you are under stress or have an inflammation of some sort im ot sure about the numbers you listed this was a guess good luck
