Urgent... my guinea pig is coughing?

I just got two female guinea pigs on Friday and one of them has a squeaky, choked cough. When she does it, she cringes her face. She is a month and a half old and has a clean, soft coat, shiny clear eyes, and no discharges. She has full clean water, healthy food, and hay everyday. I don't know what could be wrong. it started the second day I got her, Saturday. Somebody please help me I'm so worried, she's just a baby.

Update:

I'm not getting rid of her, I can't take her to a vet, and she is eating and drinking normally. What do I do and what is it??

Update 2:

Should I seperate them? I only have one water bottle and food bowl, though.

Update 3:

Could it be a respiratory problem? I love her.

Update 4:

Her breathing is normal.

It is very common for baby guinea pigs to get upper respiratory infections in route to the pet store, the stress of the travel is just to much for them. URI'S can affect different guinea pigs in different ways and starting in the sinuses is not all that uncommon, and draining into the throat will cause the sort of sounds you are talking of. My Suzzi Deals with this all the time and is always having to go on antibiotics to prevent it from going into her lungs and killing her. This is most likely exactly what is going on with you little one, with out vet intervention she will die.If you can not afford vet care you really should not be buying guinea pigs as they often need vet care. It is not expensive to treat for an URI, just the cost of the office visit which will be about $35.00 and your guinea pig will receive a complete physical and the cost of the meds. which will be about $20.00 If you can not afford to take it to the vet the pet store where you purchased it is responsible for its medical care if you did not let it go to lone be fore reporting it. I personally do not like the care they give, I do not think it is enough to totally cure the guinea pig of the problem.

In a case like this both guinea pigs really should be checked by an exotic vet to make sure they both have clear lungs. These things can go into their lungs and take their lives so quickly is is sad. Please remember guinea pigs are prey animals and will hide the fact they are ill until they are in the acute stage and they can not hide it any longer, at that point they go down hill very fast and it is not always successful to treat them.

You either have to return the guinea pig immediately or take her to a vet. Inform the pet shop of the problem and see if they will help with the expense. If you don't both could get sick and possibly die. A pet shop will not knowingly sell sick animals and has a responsibility to take them back. I don't want to seem cruel but this can be expensive and involves two animals. Make sure they are at least separated.

The pet shop might have a vet that would examine the piggy inexpensively. If you got them from a private party it is up to you what to do. Good Luck!

If you separate them and it is contagious maybe they both won't get sick. If they are together they will. Always examine the teeth upper and lower to make sure they are not so long the piggy cannot eat. Sometimes that happens and they get sick although I doubt that is the case.

Your guinea pig absolutely has a respiration illness or an obstruction in it is throat. You must take it to the vet as quickly as viable simply to make certain its not anything to critical. A steady dose of antibiotics will absolutely accept to the guinea pig if it has a respiration illness.

Have you considered aborting the guinea pig?
