Whether you believe in god or not....?

do you think it's advisable for scientists to use DNA recovered from a frozen woolly mammoth in order to clone it? Aren't we messing with the natural order of things?

Update:

Howdy, RScott!

Sorry, can't say that I agree that it was probably man that brought about their extinction. Pretty sure it was the end of the last ice age. There weren't enough of us and we only had primitive weapons at that time ~ not really conducive to wiping out an entire anything.

I would wonder genetically whether reproducing a species from a single sample would be a good thing or not. We'd have to breed them using modern-day elephants as surrogate mothers, and the limitations of inbreeding would be great.

It makes one wonder if the world as it is today would be a hospitable place for the woolly mammoth. They lived during a time when it was very cold and the earth is not so cold anymore. You hear all the time about polar ice caps melting and such and it stands to reason that it'd just be too darn hot for these creatures to live for very long if the species were brought back.

I reckon our Masters have been trying to clone things before they officially announced they knew the codes, although I haven't seen any woolly mammoths I suppose it could be done under ground in an Xfiles scenario. Whether it worked or not you know these scientists love to dabble and get plenty of funding to do so, so nothing stopping them really.

It was probably man that brought about it's extinction in the first place.

It would be kinda neat to undo one of man's wrongs for a change.

    I say go for it.
