My hair keeps breaking off?
For starters, i'm 21 years old if that helps anything. I've stopped straightening my hair due to my hair starting to fall out. I dont know if it's just breaking off, or falling out, but the bathroom counter is always covered in hair by the time i'm done fixing it every day. However, my hair is so long that I really cant tell if its just the ends breaking off, or if it's actually coming out!
I used to have extremely thick hair, then I went through the teasing phase a few years ago and it's thinned out since then. But i've never had this much hair come out before, not even when I teased it every day! I dont know what to do!
Is there a certain type of shampoo I can get to help? It's ridiculous that they make so many shapoo's so i'm not even sure what to get. Right now I use 'Dove Heat Defense', but I know the shampoo you get in stores isnt as good as whats in the salon.
I've tried Redken and Bed Head before, but do you know of any specific kinds that will help the situation? Also, if you have any ideas on whats causing it, let me know!
My hair is finally the length i've been wanting. It's mid-back. But would cutting it short and letting it grow back out help any? Or will the short hair keep breaking off too?
Like I said, i've stopped straightening it due to this. The only thing I do to it is put it in braids while I sleep and take them out in the morning so that my hair requires no styling so that I dont break more off. Ideas?
(I posted this yesterday and got 1 answer and it involved natural/at home remedies with oils. I dont have time to sit at home and mix up random items and let them soak on my head for hours. I need something, such as a change in shampoo, or oils that I can actually BUY. Also, I know that cutting my hair short wont keep it from breaking, i'm just curious as to if it would help with it any. Kind of like starting fresh with the new hair that grows.)

the same thing happened to me. i had thick hair and over processed it...ended up losing 1/4 of my hair. I did grow it back though. here are some things you can do that worked for me:
1. Start taking Biotin, beta carotene, and B-complex vitamins Everyday. I didn't have time for mixing things together and sitting there for hours either, but the pills take a few seconds to take. The vitamins are helping your hair from the inside out. The biotin should help your hair grow more within a month or two, and the other vitamins help a lot for hair strenght and health. do the research on these.
2. start massaging olive oil into your scalp. your scalp needs stimulation to activate the sebum to grow the fallen hairs back sometimes. at first, you'll notice that strands are still falling out, maybe even more. once your scalp gets use to the massaging and oil (which took 2 weeks for me ), the extra shedding will stop. The oil oil also protects and treats your hair better than Any store bought shampoo, conditioner, or treatment. put the oil in at night while watching tv or talking to family a couple times a week, braid it loosely, and wash it out in the morning.
Hopefully you'll notice your hair growing thicker again. this does takes a few months though so be patient. and try not to analyze the results everyday as this will make you frustrated as it did to me. there is no quick fix and scientifically, nothing you put on the outside of your hair can help for the problem you are having. these are just selling gimics that mask the problem. i've tried many things and wasted A LOT of money. this is what worked for me and it took me 2 months to see new hair at the scalp and 6ish months to visibily see a real difference.
good luck i know how it feels!

listen i know your pain. like 2 years ago my hair began to break off, it was because of my stylist & me using not cermaic flat tools. It could be anything. Go to a good stylist &ask them what the problem is. Moisturize yoiur hair with those home remdes, & contiue using bed head & redken. YES rolling up, braiding, or wrapping. Anything that will help your hair go with no heat is GREAT.
Do you know what the true key to growing hair is? LEAVING IT ALONE. I gurantee if you leave your hair alone put it in braids or plaits ect, you wil lsee newly grown curly hair. Leave them in for like 3 weeks. Will your hair stop breaking? Just giving it a rest will probably help it

I recommend a great hair product that can help you to have stronger hair and will keep it healthy, it's Pro Naturals Moroccan Oil Hair Treatment with Heat Protector, it helps strengthen the hair that's prone to breakage, splitting or snapping off, gently smoothes the hair, reduces Frizz and helps prevent heat damage, plus leaves hair healthy, shiny and resilient. Check it out at http://bit.ly/p0PMWk or at http://bit.ly/pwm2r3 . Hope it helps.
