Cain is an a$$ who obviously won't ever have to depend upon Social Security in his retirement. He is one of the minority of U.S. citizens who will have a very nice retirement without it. Unfortunately, the majority of retired Americans rely on it for more than 90% of their income. And given the fact that most Americans live beyond their means and from payday to payday, please don't tell me that they would have saved for their retirement if it weren't for Social Security. They didn't before Social Security came around in 1937 and they wouldn't now.
Let me ask you something. Are you putting enough money aside for retirement - not counting Social Security? Have a 401K? Good luck. Twice in the past few years they have gone down in value because of the economy. My sister and her husband will now have to work five years longer than planned because of that. Are you one of the lucky ones who works for a company with a pension plan? Because those are becoming rarer and rarer and there's no guarantee that your company won't pull the plan and offer 401ks instead like so many of them have done. And do the funds which you are saving for your retirement also cover you in case of disability? Or will they support a surviving spouse or minor children? Just asking.
I do not think that Social Security is immoral. It is a necessity for the majority of Americans. What is immoral is Cain who is convincing the uninformed that Social Security is immoral.

McCain needs to retire.
The American people want the social security system. Not only for themselves but as a safely net for future generations.
The notion that people are on their own and should save and invest is unrealistic, especially in the boom and bust economic cycles that this country has. Many of us have lost thousands from our 401K plans when the greedy wall street fund managers crashed the economy.
Thank God for social security. It is keeping a lot of seniors out of severe poverty.
