Paranormal activity 3 can someone explain?

In Paranormal Activity 2, Ali (Daniel's daughter), found out that a human can make a deal with a demon for wealth or power by forfeiting the life of their first-born son. She also realizes that until Hunter, there had not been a male child born in Kristi and Katie's family since the time of their (Katie and Kristi) great-great grandmother, who probably made the deal with the demon or the great grandmother or the grandmother (in Paranormal Activity 3) of Katie and Kristi. This is why their grandma asks Julie (Katie and Kristi's Mom) to have another child so that she (Julie) has a chance to have a male she had always wanted (Julie doesn't know about the demon) but Julie refuses making her useless to the grandmother of Katie and Kristi and Toby, the demon. This is probably why she was killed in Paranormal Activity 3 and that the demon now stalks Katie and Kristi who the demon hopes will have a baby boy.

In Paranormal Activity 3 Dennis (Julie's Boyfriend) found out that demons can make contact with children just like how Kristi can talk and see Toby and that Hunter (Kristi's son) can see Toby in Paranormal Activity 2.

Dennis also found out that there is a demonic or witches coven that brainwashed young girls into having sons when they are older (old enough to get pregnant). The covens symbol is found in Katie and Kristi's closet which the demon had written on the wall and the grandmother's house in Paranormal Activity 3. This means that their grandmother is in the coven. The coven is linked to the human who had made a deal with a demon (as said before). The human is either Katie and Kristi's grandmother, great grandmother or great great grandmother and the demon is Toby.

The coven consists of females from a range of families who made a deal with Toby, one of them being Katie's family.

In Paranormal Activity 3, Toby talks to Kristi probably about her joining the coven and having a son but she refuses so Toby pulls Katie into their closet and attacks her making Kristi promise Toby that she'll do it so that Katie is released. I think this is why Kristi was possessed first when they are older in Paranormal Activity 2.

At the end of Paranormal Activity 3, Dennis finds Katie crying by Julie's body. He slowly approaches Katie from behind. As he does, Katie turns and unleashes an inhuman scream and throws him to the other side of the room, injuring his leg. Katie runs away. Dennis tries to crawl toward Julie but Julie's mother walks into the hallway and stops in front of him. Dennis stops and as Julie's mother looks down on him, his body is suddenly and violently contorted, snapping backwards and killing him. Katie reappears and runs to her grandmother, who beckons to Kristi. As they head upstairs, Kristi calls to Toby. Upstairs is where Katie and Kristi is brainwashed, that is why they had forgotten what had happened when they were children. They lived with their grandmother after that.

After Kristi was possessed, Martine (The nanny/housekeeper of Kristi in Paranormal Activity 2) was called in by Daniel (Kristi's new husband or boyfriend) to prepare a cross that will pass the demon on to another blood relative; Kristi will have no memory of having been possessed. (The cross appears to be the one Micah finds Katie clutching, toward the end of Paranormal Activity 1 just before Katie kills Micah). Dan tells Ali that he is going to pass the demon onto Katie so that Kristi and Hunter will be saved. Although Ali begs him not to because it is unfair to Katie, Dan sees no other way to save his wife and son. Daniel is successful and three weeks later, Katie visits and explains how strange things have now begun happening at her house.

On October 9th, the night after Micah is killed, Katie, possessed and bloodstained, breaks into Dan and Kristi's home and kills Dan by breaking his neck. She then goes upstairs and attacks and kills Kristi in Hunter's room, violently hurling her against the camera and taking the baby. Katie leaves the room, cradling Hunter with a satisfied look on her face. The screen fades to black as Hunter's crying dies down and turns into laughter making Toby successful.

In Paranormal 2, you learn that Katie's grandmother made a deal with the devil somehow to give up the first male in her family line. Part 3 explains the reason for this is because she was in some sort of satanist cult. In Paranormal 1 Katie says she remembers the demon as a child and that there was a fire that lost everything. Well in part 3 it shows both Katie and Christi being possessed by the demon. Common belief when a demon possesses a human the human soul is at that moment in hell. In the fire. So this would explain why she has memory of a fire. When the girls snap to, obviously they probably won't remember much as they were traumatized. So whatever story the Grandma told them they would believe. For instance in Paranormal 1 the picture of Katie is burned, and we assume it's due to the fire. But in 2 you find out it was because Christi burned the picture to pass the demon on to Katie. So there never really was a fire. I admit this is somewhat of a stretch to make the plots linear, but it is feasible. The movie was full of scares and I thought very good. Friday the 13th and Halloween and Nightmare on Elm St sequels don't have linear plots, so I'm not going to hold Paranormal Activity to higher standards than I would those films.

Ok, this is what I got out of it, especially because I was quite disappointed that a lot of the trailers were not in the film.

The grandmother is in a cult, it's a cult that they sacrifice firstborn sons to the devil to get wealth and all. It's kind of like rosemary baby if you've ever seen that. Because Julie said she did not want to have anymore kids(when the grandmother was questioning her on that) the grandmother decided she was no more use to her and the devil so she was killed at the grandmothers house. Kristi and Katie are taken by the grandmother(I'm not sure if they are raised by her or what, one of the many things left out) and basically Im assuming are taken into the cult for one of them to have the first born son of the family(that would be hunter from the second film). Katie grows up with the devil inside of her, that's why she is followed in the first movie and the second she kills her family and takes hunter, most likely to sacrifice him. The reason the two do not remember any of this is because the demon/devil erases their memory.

Now I don't know how well I explained this since even explaining it is hard enough when so much is left out. But the main thing from this movie is you learn about Toby, the demon that follows the girls around, and you learn that the grandmother had made a pact with the devil to sacrifice their first born som to have wealth.

I don't know why the burning of the house was not mentioned, or the priest that came into the house. I'm not sure if the little girl was serious about getting ready to marry Toby when they were playing dress up(after the mother and husband were killed and the grandmother walked the girls up the stairs and said it was time to get ready).

There's lots of things with this movie I don't understand. But I'm assuming there will be a 4th since they really need to specify what's going on.

ok so the story is that 1 and two happened at the same time and the third is the story of how it all began so the grandmother summoned a Demon for wealth (now the second comes to a play) the grandmother told the demon that it can have the first born son and in return she will have wealth and then hunter is born then the family find out a family member made a deal with the demon of giving the first born son in the family for wealth so when kristi gets possesed the dad and daughter decided to transfer the Spirit to kristi's sister katie so now were in the first movie so then Katie and Micah notice things happening in the house Katie tells Kristi about it and then weeks later Katie goes up at Kristi's house wearing bloody pajamas. She walks up behind the dad and breaks his neck then goes upstairs kills Kristi and steals the baby Hunter. (the demon possessed Katie and used her to get the baby) that's how it ends and then the third comes in so this is when the girls are little and how their life was before everything hoped this helped and if you still don't get it im sorry that's as clear as i can make it sound :)

OKAY let's get started do you see the beginning of paranormal 2 it's in 2005 or something paranormal 1 is in 2009 Toby HAS followed Kristi from the deal she made with Toby in paranormal 3 that if he stops attacking Katie she'll come to the thingie mabob with him so after Dennis and Julie are killed granny takes them upstairs to brain wash them to forget this ever happened Toby was ever since following Kristi from 1988 to when she was older she then had her first baby boy HUNTER who Toby HAS his sights on Toby keeps it up until he possesses Kristi after dragging her in the closet then Daniel Kristi's boyfriend plants the cross in her releasing Toby into Katie that's when paranormal 1 comes in the intro of 2 is Actually how 1 started off so after Katie is left with Toby Katie faces the WRATH of hatred she felt when she was a kid in 3 afterwards she is posessed and kills her boyfriend and goes to Kristi kills family then takes hunter leading to the beginning of paranormal 4 where Toby win

First of all, this is exactly what the producers want you to think so theres plenty of room for another sequal. Anyway, do you remember half way through the movie when the man (forgot his name) and his friend were researching that book that said there were groups of women in cults that gave their souls away when they hit puberty. The grandma was part of one of those cults and wanted to recruit the grandchildren because they were getting close to puberty. That is why all the paranormal stuff was happening. And the witches/pilgrims were also members of the cult. If you have seen the first movie, Katy turns bad because she is possessed. The lady they walk up the stairs with is the grandma. It is unclear what they were going to do upstairs, it is left to the viewers interpretation.

a lot of good answers here! but Toby did not follow Katie around like that one answer states. He was with Kristie. If you watch the second movie Kristie was possessed first. Once her husband put the cross on her in the basement the demon left and moved to Katie.

In the second movie Katie asks her sister if the weird things had stopped because she was feeling like they were happening to her at her house now.

My question is tho... why do the girls not remember being part of the cult? In the second movie they remember having problems and remember Kristie being strange and acting demonic but how could they not remember anything else? I know the third movie says that the cult brain washes the girls into forgetting but if that is the case, then how do both the girls recall the weird things happening at all then?

If you watch the first two you will understand. The grandmother made a deal with a devil (or demon) to be rich in exchange for her daughter's first-born son, that was clearly said in Paranormal Activity 2. This also explains why when Krissy and Katy's mother was talking to the grandmother, the grandmother said, "You should have a son! You've always wanted a son."

It also explains why "Toby" was so bent on getting Hunter in the second movie. Now, there are a lot of unanswered questions, such as why is the grandmother in a cult, and what is the purpose. Also, where did Hunter and Katy's possessed body go? This leads me to believe there'll be a fourth.

Here is my two-sense on Hunter, and it may contain spoilers: When Toby was attacking Katy, Krissy was screaming, "Okay, okay I'll do it! I'll do it!" then Toby ceased the attack and disappeared. Then, the next even was them dressing up as brides, and the mother's boyfriend asked, "Whose the lucky man?" and Krissy said, "Toby is."

Toby is only around because he is waiting for the first-born son. At the end of the third movie, the grandmother says, "Let's go get ready," and Krissy says, "Come on, Toby!"

Because of these actions, I believe Toby is Hunter's father. I know demons can plant their "seeds" in humans and wait as long as they want to have the egg fertilized. I believe Hunter is Toby's son, which is why he cradles him as if he WAS his own son at the end of the second movie.

Well, I saw it like an hour ago and halfway through the movie, he pulls out a picture of like these ladies (witches, cult, whatever you want to call them) and he says that they follow around young girls until they get pregnant and they murder their first born son. They had that little triangle witch symbol (the one found in Katie and Kristie's closet and the one on the screen and the one in the Gramma's house) It is part of their cult. In the end, all of the ladies come out blah blah blah. Well, that gives you the answer to the second one. Kristi gets possessed by it, they send it to Katie and Katie comes and murders them all and steal Hunter; the first born son. And the second one is before the first one and yeah. Hard to explain, but if you listen it makes sense.

Ohhh and I think, I'm not sure, but I think Toby was in on the cult thing.

Exactly what Lanie said except Toby is the Devil. The grandmother made a deal with him to be financially stable if she gave Toby the first born son in the family. But Julie didn't want to have another child, so Toby stayed with the two girls until one of them had a child. Which is why they took Hunter, Julie's baby, in the second movie.
