Trying to connect to XBOX Live?
I am using a bog-standard ethernet cable to connect my 360 to my laptop (which receives WiFi from my router) but when I go to connect it says it can't obtain my IP address (even though my DHCP settings are set to yes) So when connecting it doesn't get past 'network' so then can't get to internet/XBOX Live. Please help me?
- and when I try enter manually CMD only gives me one DNS server, so that won't work either.

Try going into network setting on your xbox and run the network test, first to pc, then to xbox live. Try turning off the xbox, disconnect the ethernet and reconnect. If none of this work then recheck the setting on your laptop. This is how i have my xbox connected, Ethernet from xbox to my pc and my pc gets wifi. I just turned on the share network and it works fine for me.
