stopped taking antidepressants?
I was on 30mg of paxil. Recently I stopped taking it, and have had horrible withdrawal. I had already talked to my doctor about coming off it, and he said he wouldnt start taking me off it yet. I missed my last psychiatrist appointment so didnt get a new prescription and have now run out. I wanted to start taking them again because I can't cope with the withdrawal. I'm nervous about going back the way I am because of the withdrawal when I was told not to stop. does anyone know if its possible to get paxil without going through a prescription?

Paxil withdrawals are horrific. I'd probably go to the emergency room, tell them what happened to get a few Paxils to make it to your next Doctor appointment. You must go off Paxil VERY slow. Even slower than most Doctors tell you. I'm currently on 17.5 mg and started at 40 mg. You can't be on this drug forever either, as your body will adjust to the maximum dose and you'll withdraw anyway. Believe me, I know how awful it feels. I have a website about it and have suggestions, also a link to a support group. This drug should not be given to people. There's also a couple of links to petitions on my site. But yeah, you need to get back on it and taper off slow or you can suffer damage. I don't mean to scare you, but it is indeed serious. Go to the ER.

Get a repeat prescription and instead of going back to your normal dose why dont you try just taking a smaller dose for a while and then you can try to come off them gradually instead of going cold turkey. If your doctor think its better you stay on them then you should maybe follow his advice but I know what its like to be on meds and hate it. I was only 60 mg of antidepressants but then I got it down to 40 then 20 eventually then I stopped and I had barely any withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor if you can do it that way instead. Good luck!

Why don't you book an emergency doctors appointment for tomorrow? Most gp's do emergency on the day appointments, you usually call up in the morning when the doctors open and book an appointment. If you are prescribed paxil, any doctor will be happy to repeat the prescription for you.

Withdrawal symptoms can really be tough and frustrating particularly for antidepressants like Paxil. This drug is consistently reported to be causing harmful side effects and various troublesome withdrawal symptoms. See http://www.paxilbirthdefectlaw.com/paxil-side-effe... for more information. Just remember to consult your doctor before taking and before stopping any medication to avoid unfortunate outcomes.

Get an appointment with your psychiatrist asap. Go to your nearest chemist with the empty packet if you can and explain the situation. You should be able to get an emergency supply from them to cover you until your appointment.

Go to your pharmacist with the empty bottle. The pharmacist will call your doctor and get authorization for another refill.
... and then don't go cold turkey on this stuff. You need to taper off gradually with reduced doses.
