Pet owners - Do you find it easy, or hard, to say you "own" a pet...?

.

..

I find it a bit difficult to think in terms of "owning" another living thing..

I have 3 dog, and several cats that live with me, but I tend to think of myself as their keeper, or perhaps, provider, but to say I own another living entity feels a bit alien..

Does anyone else think that way.?

    Hey GM!

I can say I own a dog quite easily. Getting the little bugger to do as he's told is the hard part!

I always consider that a pet keeper isn't the same as a pet owner for the fact that a keeper is a person who is just employed to do a job usually by a Zoo. The animals don't belong to them so they just keep them for their basic needs. If you are a pet owner it comes with a bigger responsibility so I prefer to call myself a pet owner rather than a keeper on the grounds that I'm not looking after my pets for someone else.

It's for legal purposes. If you tell a police officer some stupid crap like "no the pet owns me, the pet is my equal," etc. then the officer will make sure you no longer have that pet.

My pet is a part of the family there is no ownership involved. She is my baby and I am her mom and sometimes she is my caregiver, I owe so much to my baby girl. We care for each other and it is a mutual relationship. I am honored to have such a smart girl in my life only two and half and so smart and such a loyal family member.

I used to have an Old English Sheepdog, but I think she owned me!

i agree with you, having an animal is not owning it ,more like a companion , animals deserve a lot more credit in the world than they get, i always love animals, good for you

  • I never say I own my dogs. I sometimes say I have them for simplicity, but they are actually my friends, companions, and protectors.

Easy, I own 2 cats and 2 fish.

    But I don't usually say I "own" them, I say I "have" 2 cats/fish.

I prefer to say I "have" a pet, it just sounds better, morally speaking.
