What do long layers refer to?

I dont understand if it means having the hair fairly long and with the layers starting about below the ear going down to about a few inches past the shoulders. Or fairly long hair with layers that start about two or three inches above where the hair is originally cut. Does anyone know which one is a long layer?

  • Long layers are layers that begin towards the end of your hair. So, your hair would be regular-cut (all at the same length) until towards the end where the layers start to scaffold.

Short layers begin much higher at the head (more towards the ears) if you have long hair.

Long layers would begin down towards your mid back if you have long hair.

I didn't really read the rest of your question.. so yeah. Sorry. But that's what a long layer is.

Long layers have to depend on the length of the hair and the desired look in the finish.
