I definitely think Bayne is the real deal. The so-called best thing since sliced bread finished 32nd in his debut and finished last in his first 500. Bayne, however, finished 17th in his debut at one of the toughest tracks on the circuit and won the 500 in his first attempt yesterday. That takes talent. Gordon has certainly established himself as one of the most influential drivers in the sport. Kasey Kahne, Kyle Busch, and Trevor Bayne are among the drivers that looked up to Gordon when they were younger. If Gordon says Bayne's a good driver, then it obviously must be true. I've kept my eyes on Bayne for a while now, and I definitely think he has the potential to be one of NASCAR's top drivers in a few years.

    1. With the safety concerns that have been in the spotlight in recent years, I say it is not a surprise.

    2. Racing at the restrictor plate tracks has changed in recent years, no more of the "fastest moving parking lot" @ Talledega, no more of the "hot dog down the middle" if you didn't stay in line, which is why there is no more "big one". They are not grouped up like they used to be. Owners can't afford the "big one" anymore.

    3. I like the tandem drafting, and if it continues, driver's have said how they were learning about how to make the tandem into a 4-5 car line to run together.so it could become a train "engine" vs "engine" given time and I for one would love to see that happen.

    4. If Martinsville is real racing to you, then you need to come to the Madison International Speedway (Wis). This is a track that has the same distance, but a better class of racing for the distance. I don't like the "paper clip". MIS is a bit more "Looped" to allow a run to pass the leader, and it comes into play alot! Ask Ross Kenseth, he loves this track.

    5. I knew last week that the 48 was done, just didn't have a fork. He does now!

Source(s): Back at you...Still don't believe Carl is the one to win it. I'm thinking it's between Matt and Tony. What about your thought's?

The general consensus of Gordon fans have stated if it was a last lap pass for the win, then fine. That's racing. The problem in their opinion was that Trevor stated he was going to do the pushing & then abandoned Jeff on the back stretch on the restart lap.

    1. Somewhat, but not really. As has been discussed a lot recently in the wake of the Dan Wheldon tragedy, NASCAR's safety standards are pretty good these days.

    2. Well that's an advantage with the paired racing. Spread apart vs 1 big pack = less chance for "The Big One"

    3. Its an evolution of racing at Daytona/Talladega. No RP, then RP with packs now RP with pairs.

    4. I'm always ready for the next race

    5. Didn't really matter to me.

  • I can't stand Trevor Bayne haters. If the Gordon fans are doin' that, they are idiots who as Jim M said "don't know their butt from a bass fiddle". I would never do that. He was followin' Ford's orders, as Winter Glory said. If he hadn't done what he did, he coulda lost his ride. After what almost happend in May, he wouldn't wanna do that. Nicholas is right. "One race does not a career make" as some have said and so one race ain't worth the price of a career, either. Trevor is a smart kid who knows better than to make a short-term gain fer a long-term loss. I think the other drivers (includin' Jeff Gordon) understand what was goin' on with Ford. Or at least they should. I still believe. Next year could be different. The next races could be different I think Trevor shoulda been exempt from the rule 'cause the Wood Brothers are a 1 car team. I blame Ford. Edit: Another member mentioned in another question what Trevor said on Twitter includin' this: And he took the most telling one down but it's saved to my phone:"I would have rather pulled over and finished last than tell Jeff Gordon I would work with him and then be STRONG ARMED into bailing." This is why no one should lose faith in Trevor.

    1. No, no one's died since Earnhardt. 2. The Big One had already happened. 3. I think's it ok. 4. I am ready fer Martinsville. 5. I was happy that my drivers had a good day.

No, I'm not. I'm a huge Gordon fan, but I know Bayne will get what's coming to him. Just like Daytona in July when Brad K turned Bayne, no driver trusted him enough to work with him until Biffle Turned Edwards. Bayne will be in an even worse spot. He may be a great pusher, but no driver will trust him now that he's done what he did at plate tracks. Look for him to be all alone come next Daytona 500

    1. I was very glad to see him walk away. 10 years ago that crash would've killed him without a doubt

    2. You don't consider Regan's crash to be a big wreck?

    3. I don't mind the tandem drafting, because it adds an element to the sport not found anywhere else. It forces competitors to work together, and it gives the underdog drivers a better shot. Look at Dave Blaney today. One more lap and he could've won after he hooked up with Brad K

    4. To me, there is no fake racing, just different styles. But yes, I am looking forward to Martinsville now that Talladega is done

    5. No, but I did smile when I saw a few other drivers even farther back who finally got finishes they deserved

Well I just heard Jeff Gordon say that he asked Trevor if he would work with him, that he was surprised when Trevor said yes he would, so I am disappointed with Trevor, he should of just told Jeff no, rather than do him the way he did. Want his head nope.

    1. Glad that he walked away, thanks to the Hans and the safer walls.

    2. Had a couple of wrecks.

    3. It is pretty bad.

    4. So ready for Martinsville.

    5. I still have a big grin on my face.

    1. Nope. Yay Hans device and SAFER barriers!

    2. The way everybody was running all out, yes I was.

    3. I don't like how it forces one driver to rely on another to get ahead and/or win.

    4. Love Martinsville; it's up close and personal. I've been there twice.

    5. I have to admit, I did. Nothing personal against the 48; just ready to see a new champion.

This Gordon fan is not calling for Bayne's head, and people who do don't know their butts from a bass fiddle. Bayne's not there to help Gordon win, he's there to do a job. Gordon doesn't need his freakin' help.

    1. Not anymore, and I'm glad Regan's o.k. Good guy, works hard, makes most of what he has.

    2. Ya never know what will happen. Hated it when final lap wreck toasted M.Martin's 2009 chances.

    3. Big time. Will be happy to see it end.

    4. Personally, I like Richmond better, but Martinsville will be a blast.

    5. To be honest, yes. Nothing against him personally, but it's time for a new champ.

    1. Scary wreck, but no, I wasn't necessarily surprised. The safety aspect is just awesome nowadays in NASCAR.

    2. Just how it worked out. I'm glad there wasn't.

    3. I don't think it sucks, but I do miss the pack racing. There aren't many big wrecks with the tandem racing, which is something I really like.

    4. Yes, Martinsville is awesome. I've lost interest in Bristol, so Martinsville took it's place for me.

    5. No

    1. Wow, look too eerily familiar to a certain wreck in 2001. That one was scary. Thank you Hans and softer walls.

    2. Good fortune and talented drivers. And there were wrecks, right? What race was I watching?

    3. On a scale for one to ten - six hundred and forty one point nine.

    4. Abolutely! Best track in Nascar. Haven't missed a race there since 2003.

    5. I was disapointed by Matt's finish to smile about anything. I'll smile about it tomorrow.
