Received a notice from my disability insurance that a levy from IRS was placed on my check. What can I do?

They are taking 70% of this check and this could go on for years. I know this is my fault. But is there any thing I can do until I get it straitened out? I did not file my taxes for several years, many reasons . No lectures please. If they start taking this money I won' be able to hire a lawyer. They said they sent notices. But the only one I received is from the insurance company This is a disability check.... Yes I am asking again. Different category. Maybe more responses thanks!

Update:

Thanks I did not 'evade' I paid taxes in my check I just did not file a return. Besides room and board ,,medical care? Not so bad. HaHa !!

If you didn't file your taxes "for several years" then I'm not sure what you expect an attorney is going to be able to do for you . . . other than take money from you that you don't have.

You should schedule a consultation with a tax attorney. (Consultations are usually free.) To see if there is anything an attorney can do for you, but you're actually fairly lucky you aren't facing criminal charges of tax evasion.

So you did not file your taxes for years? The penalties and interests must be huge for your tax debt. If they already enforced a levy on your insurance account, then it is almost impossible for you to take those money back. But you still have options to stop a tax levy, as what you said, the levy may go on for years if you do nothing. I am not quite sure about your financial situation, but possibly you can settle a payment plan, or you can prove that the levy brings you a financial hardship. I disagree that tax attorney is not helpful. There are a lot ways to release a levy, and it is so struggling for individual tax payer to fight with IRS. They are powerful and the tax code is so complicated. If you can't afford the fee, try to call toll free 877-485-8272 for more suggestions, I think their tax attorneys provide a free consultation, just tell them your situation and ask what to do. They won't charge you. Hope it is helpful for you.

there's really not much you can do now, it's too later. once a lien or levy is enforced not even a lawyer can help.
