I'm not going to go into the whole "weed vs brain cells" issue here. Some say that it is harmless used in moderation (The "Leafy Bourbon" argument) while others will say that weed kills brain cells stone dead.

I'm not going to even touch that. That's a debate for somewhere else.

Cigarettes are worse because of several things.

    1. Smokers of tobacco tend to become addicted to it to the point where they are using it several times a day. You hear about the 1 to 2 pack a day smoker. That's 20-25 cigs in a pack (depending on brand) for upwards of 50 cigs smoked in a day.

The average joint smoker does 1 to 2 joints in a day and often times not every day. So in the case of inhaling burnt plant byproducts, weed offers less and more time for the lungs to recover between usages.

    And...

    2. Tobacco in cigs is proven to have additives that increase their addictive qualities (nicotine). Weed is usually just the weed unless a partaker purchases some that is enhanced with another drug. But in most cases (especially in the home-grown) it is simply the pure weed and nothing else.

So while neither is particularly healthy, cigarettes are far worse in just the damage to the lungs.

Are you serious? Cigarettes are WAY worse than weed, and I'm not even being biased here (never smoked either, just a supporter for legalization)

The main difference is that tobacco is physically addictive, and therefore people develop a dependence on it to stay "normal" (i.e. not in withdrawl). Also, modern tobacco companies have engineered it to contain more and more nicotine, and also other crap chemicals that get in there. Weed also has its share of crap in the smoke, but its not addictive. Also, when using the drug, on average tobacco smokers take in much more than weed smokers (i.e. a tobacco user might smoke a pack a day, while a weed user might just smoke 1 joint a day if that)

cigarettes are more addicting and nicotine has more dangerous side effects. Weed in canada is almost more socially acceptable then those cancer sticks. Also odds are you smoke way more cigs than weed in a day

I'll take this question on. Tobacco vs Marijuana - the affects on human health.

You know the story of tobacco because it's well publicized. Deaths from Cancer, Lung Disease and much much more. Pipe smokers get it in their mouth as well. Nicotine solution kills the bugs in your garden. The LD-50 means take this much and 50% die. The LD50 of nicotine is 50 mg/kg for rats and 3 mg/kg for mice. (We dont do the experiment on humans.) [1]

Marijuana has no LD-50. [2] All THC and concentrated marijuana extract ingested by mouth were unable to produce death or organ pathology in large mammals.

..... According to which US Government authority you want to believe, the lethal dose of marijuana

..... is either about one-third your body weight, or about 1,500 pounds, consumed all at once.

Marijuana is not physically harmful at all. Whole marijuana ingested is the only treatment for a particular form of brain tumor. I've met someone who had it at a MAPS meeting. [3] He told me that THC pills, Marinol, will not slow or retard the tumor growth.

Recent evidence supports a very small daily dose of concentrated oil from marijuana will successfully treat cancer. I leave this for you to look up.

Other studies I have actually read demonstrate that people under the psychological affect of getting high from marijuana do not have worse judgment but rather take a constant half-second longer to consider before they act.

Another study after the fact on accidents, I believe from Stanford, compared the drivers who had been in car accidents as far as amount of responsibility for the accident. The evidence showed that the marijuana-affected drivers were LESS likely to be responsible for the accident than the sober drivers who were less likely to be responsible than the alcohol affected drivers. (Multiple-drug affected drivers were not counted in the comparison I am quoting.)

This probably isn't what you expected. You have to do your own research and draw your own conclusions but the evidence is clear.

Due to the fact that marijuana is prescribed by doctors to patients with bad arthritis etc and other conditions I would probably say that cigarettes are probably worse for you.

Both substance have different health issues - as you know cigarettes and tobacco are highly linked to cancer and also have detrimental effects on your skin, hair and nails.Marijuana is also linked to mental illness, paranoia etc

I would advise to be careful with both
