Do animals cheat on their mates?

Humans mate for life, and some animals mate for life as well. But are animals unfaithful like people are?

Many species of birds and mammals that supposedly mate for life, have sex with others if the opportunity presents itself. Some females choose as a life partner a male that is a good provider of food for the young and a good defender against predators. At the same time they will often mate with another better looking male. This applies to most species, including humans.

Since animals don't get married, they can't "cheat." Humans don't mate for life; marriage was created by humans. It's got nothing to do with biology; it's social and religious.
