91 Honda Accord 180k - What oil grade would be best to use?
I have a 91 Honda Accord with a 180k, I wanted to know what oil grade should I use during the winter and the summer. Living in Philadelphia
Was told I can use 10w 40 all year around, but I would like to know other opinions on what would be best.
thanks in advance for all info and help
Okay, so is it good for all year around or would I need to change into a different grade when it hits winter or summer

You need to use what your owners manual says (likely 5w30). Your engine was designed for a specific grade of oil. Using 10w40 isn't a good idea (you have a lot of tight oil passages.) Using thicker oil will prevent the proper film of oil to be formed around your bearings, and on the valvetrain surfaces.
Use what your owner's manual says (year-round), plain and simple. Hope this helps!

No. 5w30 actually protects better than the 10w40 of twenty years ago. There's not really any need for it in that old an engine since the clearances aren't all that tight any more, but it wouldn't have hurt. You need to find why the engine locked, and the reason should be apparent.

No, not the oil. Just coincidence. Old cars break, even Hondas.

10w-40 premium oil. Synthetic based oil. Not standard conventional. Valvoline has what is called Maxlife it's a oil designed for vehicles with high mileage.

just use 10w30 and since it has high miles use high mileage oil. 10w30 is a all climate oil. you can use it all year long, summer and winter.
