Is it necessary to have a professionally written resume?

I'm job hunting and I don't get any call backs for interviews. Is it my resume? Most of the stuff I read says you have to show that you're a go getter but I really feel the positions I'm applying for require more of a "this is what I can do for you" kind of description. I'm a lab jockey and that's what I bring to the table. I'm not going to be "increasing revenues by 40%" nor should I be expected to. Thanks.

If you mean paying someone to write your resume by professionally written, then no absolutely not. But looking at it from the employer's point of view, you want to make yourself as professional as possible.

I understand what you're trying to say, but even then, in today's competitive world, with few jobs and many applications, it has become essential to portray yourself correctly and effectively to employers / recruiters. If you do not, well, you've already experienced what it does.

A professionally written resume shows the recruiter exactly what he wants in a candidate. The resume is written, keeping in mind the requirements of a particular job position. It highlights the parts he wants, so that he knows that the candidate fit for the job is YOU...
