I just Heard a girl screaming for help...?
and i kept walking. at first i thought she was just being obnoxious, it was on a major road and people scream loudly all the time. But then she said 'somebody help' and i didnt know what to do. i cant remember if i froze or slowly kept walking forward but i didnt really know what to do.
Am i the worst person in the world for not immediately helping her?
ps she got help from somebody.after that i didnt feel guilty going home.
worth noting, its not like i walked away then noticed that someone went to help her. i walked away after someone went to help her. There was also no apparent danger to me as she wasnt being actively hurt by anyone, she was just standing there by herself screaming.

It's a common reaction to that type of situation unfortunately. People don't usually know what to do to help someone or they weren't expecting something like that to happen around them and they freeze up.
I've done almost the same thing before. I saw someone fall off their bike and then they weren't moving. I just stood there waiting to see if they would get up and be alright. Again, someone closer went over to help them and everything was alright after (I think).
It doesn't mean you are the worst, but it's kind of a wake up call. After going through that, I made sure I never just stood there again. Now I always go ask if someone is ok when I suspect something is wrong or call the police or an ambulance if there is a bigger emergency. It's good to try to be prepared for anything.

You obviously feel some guilt or you would not be here asking.
I think you should have placed yourself in her place.Would you want someone to hear your cry for help and not do anything but rather keep on driving? Suppose unlike this occasion you were the only person who heard her? If it was your relative in this situation would you want to hear after wards a person testify;" I heard her scream but I had to get home"
Yes, you could have at least called 911 and given the location of the lady's screams
Remember what goes around always always comes around

When someone screams for help, You don't assume she is being obnoxious. Call the Police or offer your assitance. Imagine reading a story in the paper the next morning of an attack that happened on the very road you were on...how would that make you feel that you actually HEARD her screams?

police officers state most of the time people will not get involved with a call for help- people are naturally scared of the situation- what if they get involved could they be putting themselves in harms way, etc- police state if you need help- scream fire- people are more likely to response quickly- so your reaction was completely natural- next time I'd at least call 911 while I am walking away- best wishes!
Well you just still never know if the lady wasn't just a nut job and if you approached her- she could've freaked out on you- I think you did ok to wait and see if some else helped her out- I don't think I would've have approached her either- you just never know- don't worry about it- it's all over with now and someone helped her out- no need to feel guilty- take care!
