Liberals are now calling themselves "Progressives" ever since Jimmy Carter made "Liberal" a dirty name.
And before they were Liberals, FDR was a self-styled Progressive, as was Woodrow Wilson and Teddy Roosevelt before him.

Of course, the right will say no.
Their goal is to see Obama fail and the economy crash, so they can blame it on Obama. In fact, some conservative groups are actively and purposely sabotaging any chance of recovery.
For example, the Tea Party Nation sent an email asking for businesses to take an oath that they wouldn't hire another person until Obama is defeated. When unemployment is stuck so high, how is that not sabotage?
So yeah, in a sense Dems are making choices easy for Republicans, in the short term. But in the long run, Republicans are making the voters' choice quite easy.

A BALANCED approach of tax increases and spending cuts of WASTE not Social Security or Health care is the right approach.
And infrastructure must be repaired. If it creates jobs - so much the better.
That bridge in Cincinnati really is horrible (Brent Spence bridge) People with disabled auto's get knocked over the side and drown! There are no shoulder lanes and the existing bridge is too small to carry the Interstate traffic that it is on.

I don't really care what the Right will say "yes" to. They are illegitimate leaders, and their opinions lack merit.
Tax rates were much higher the last time we managed to balance budgets. Any attempts to balance the budget without raising taxes won't work.
The Left won't support any deal that is made entirely on the backs of poorer Americancs who rely on government assistance programs, and they control a larger portion of government. Why should Democrats have to bow to Republicans want? Why not just let the alternative to a deal happen since any plan that the Republicans support will have cuts just as draconian to social welfare programs?

Maybe you should put another question up Why are Republicans making it easier to vote for Democrats? Everyone of the Republicans want a tax increase for the middle class and a tax decrease for the top 1%.

dems offer idea after idea...and cons shoot them down...
are some ideas over the top? maybe?
but when 2012 rolls around... dems are going to say "we tried to pass bill after bill after bill to help the economy and were blocked at every step... the cons did nothing"
and if the economy is still bad, people WILL wonder why the cons didn't do anything to help.... PARTICULARLY if doing nothing didn't help...
