Powerpoint Smart Art transitions question?
This is driving me crazy. I have a Smart Art shape. I want to have each part of it have a separate transition--the slide appears, then one shape. Then I hit "space" and the next shape comes in, then space, then the next shape. I hit "convert to shapes" to make each shape separate. Yet for some reason, when I try to give each a different transition, it still makes the entire Smart Art structure transition all at once rather than one piece at a time. What am I doing wrong? Help!

Select the Smart Art. Go to the Animations tab at the top. Select the entrance animation you want to use. If you don't want to get too tricky, you can just pulldown where it says Effects Option and select how you want the elements to come in. Because it is level based, you may still not get exactly what you want. In that case, click on Animation Pane and you will see all the pieces animations. If you don't see everything, just click on the little double arrows on the left to expand. You can then change order, effect, when they come in, etc. individually.

You can also just break your SmartArt graphic apart, and then add your transitions as you see fit.
CTRL + SHIFT + G twice to break a graphic.
