Is it permitted for a non married (M/F) foreign couple to share in hotel room in Egypt?

I know an unmarried Egyptian male and a non-Egyptian woman are not permitted in the same room but I would be surprised is this rule extended to unmarried foreigners? Any advice appreciated.

Update:

Typo - it should read "to share 'a' hotel room..."

Update 2:

Typo - it should be "unmarried" not non married. My spelling and concentration is lacking today.

Sorry to correct the answers who didn't know the Egyptian law, it's allowed since no Egyptian is one of this couple and you wont have any problem with that at as long as both of you are not Egyptian.

Also by law, guests are not allowed to sleep in each other rooms or an outside guest to enter hotel rooms unless he/she inform the reception and they allow him.

It's not allowed too for most hotel staff to enter guest rooms unless the hotel security or management are informed and allowed.

    Ok Egyptian law say

An unmarried human couples can't reside in a sheltered area with at most 50 cm width concrete beams or wide flange beam above them. No column is inside the room span. If the house is timber, no laws apply according the the 1926 Timber laws.

An unmarried human couple can reside in the same room if the room is more than 200 m^s and more than one column is on the span of the room. The beds should be at least more than 8 m apart, span to span. The Male bed should face south so that head will face south at sleep. The female human bed should face east so that her head face east at sleep.

If the human female is an orthodox copt, this rule doesn't apply unless the approved by a local coptic church. The utility supervisor should alert the local Coptic church about this female and make sure the church property is safe..

If the female human is Caucasian with blond hair, then odet el khwaga (1925) rule apply so usually everything is allowed unless the local Basha office didn't approve.

  • i have my own experience. a friend of mine is living in the same hotel with me. he's a turkish. he has a columbian wife.

we both are foreigners and are on a seminar where the goverment provide us with a 3 star hotel (two bed). we got a room for each.

the hotel WONT ALLOW the turkish guy to bring in his wife. (not before additional 200 pounds). well thats shocking. (where in hell would any hotel refuse to let a wife to stay with his husband in the same room when its even has an extra bed) you know what the hotel receptions told me? "its the law.." (feeling like im living in soviet era)

you may call its common, but in a country where tourism has contribut a lot for the economic, this kind of way of thinking is far from acceptable. (and dont say that :this is egypt... accept that!!") in either way, if it is the law, its unacceptable, if the guy tries to trick my friend, then that sooo silly. try something smarter..

Just don't publicize your marital status.

If they ask, just say you're married, they can't ask for proof. This hotels are business, they wouldn't disturb the customer on small things like these.

If you look married, they will pass their eyes.
