What are some tips on planting garlic?

Do you remove the wrapping from the bulbs before planting. How deep should the bulbs be planted? How far apart? Best time for planting. Preferred types of mulch. When should garlic be harvested. Many thanks to all for sharing their experiences.

It is best to remove the outing covering but I have known people who don't. Plant them with pointed end up about 2" deep at 4 to 6 inches apart. Average soil will work just fine, just be sure to avoid very damp conditions to avoid fungal, because they don't require much water. You will know when it is time to harvest by the leaves, the lower/outer leaves will turn brown. Sure glad to see you back because we have missed you.

You should separate the garlic so that it is in small bulbs. You don't have to remove the wrappinng because it won't hurt the garlic. Plant them about a palms length apart.

Tip: To keep bugs off your other plants, plant garlic around them. Won't hurt the plants! :)
