HELP! What can I do about a year old dog that's destroying my house?

She is a 1 year old pit bull that won't stop chewing my house apart. She's chewed my shoe, boot, throw rugs, smaller dogs beds, etc. Tonight takes the cake, though. She completely destroyed my Persian rug so it is no longer usable. I fell apart in tears. She does this whether I'm here or not. Of course when I'm home I catch her in the act and she stops. But when I'm gone...

Update:

What can a dog trainer do to help? I keep her in a metal pen with a lid. I can't afford a crate, too. She "walks" the pen, that's how she got the rug. She pulled it through the bars as she chewed it.

Update 2:

Sorry, I asked. I've done all you have said. "NO" does nothing. Outside she chews the plants. When I'm home with her she IS SUPERVISED! I keep her tied around my waist with 2 leashes. Her being a pit bull has nothing to do with it. You've never heard of a PEN? "Something with a lid", ha ha. It's an open air metal pen 4x4 feet with an open air metal top. Made from the same company that makes metal crates! Geez! You should know that.

I apologize to others here that are answering without yelling at me.

And I never BOUGHT the rug.

Put the pen in one area of your house. Do you have a garage? You could try putting the pen in the least "destroyable" area of your home. This way she won't have much to get into if she does "walk" the pen.

Could you puppy proof your home? All you need to do is get on your hands and knees are crawl around your home. Anything that looks within reach and fun to chew on is fair game for her and needs to be moved to a higher place or out of the way.

When you are home, supervise her. Keep her confined to the room you are in and immediately correct the behavior. When you are not home, crate her- obviously if she can move the pen, it's not doing the job. She needs an hour long leash walk in the morning and another at night.

I had the same issue with my dog except shes not a pit bull. She's a Shi tzu. Anyways i suggest keeping anything that's chewable away from her. Do you have an extra room for her to stay in? She's probually just teething buy her some sturdy kong toys. As for the dog bed just give her an sweat shirt to sleep on or maybe an old blanket. I hope I helped, Good luck with your doggy!

She's young, she's a Pit Bull. This is bound to happen.

The smart thing to do, which should be common sense, is to CRATE HER WHEN YOU CANNOT SUPERVISE HER.

Give her something to do, EXERCISE HER MORE. This is just standard procedure, you should know this.

WTF? You keep her in something with a lid? If you can't afford a lousy dog crate, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE A DOG. You can afford a Persian rug, you can afford a crate!

    Hi Laure,

This is her way of getting attention from you..You keep her in a metal pen with a lid on it..If I was your dog,I would chew your Persian rug too..She need more attention from you..Take her on walks after dinner, she would love that..Buy her some new toys and throw a fit over her and tell her you love her and what a good girl she is..Just show her you love her and spend more time with her and her behavior will change..

when she does something bad, show the damaged object to her and say NO firmly and loudly. Put her outside when your gone or after she's done something wrong.
