why do we celebrate all souls day for the dead instead of the living?

In book of Genesis Adam was created by God breathing his nostrils then he became a living soul.So why not celebrate saints in church instead of the dead because the dead know nothing and no part in this world. It is even right for us living to live holy lives?

This is spiritual question but I want answers from Philippines.

Update:

Every time I post a question I feel devastated because somebody scolds at me.

Shut up Wilma!! That's why "memorial" is associated with it. Well then don't visit your loved ones if you ever have that when they're dead. I also advice you to wear Halloween costume and roam around cemetery to scare the hell out of the people visiting or shall I say celebrating all soul's day for them to stop doing so.

Can't you see my dear? All living creature like you celebrate living souls by drinking, dancing, etc. and generally because they are living. That's why they do celebrate the event to remember that those who passed away were part of the living world and to share what the living people celebrate as they can no longer do. You need education Wilma!!

In book of Genesis Adam was created by God breathing his nostrils then he became a living soul..... as well as the so called "original sin".

why not celebrate saints in church instead of the dead because the dead know nothing .. Catholic tradition, deads as in good dead people were beatified and canonized.

why do we celebrate all souls day for the dead instead of the living? .... because we celebrate the living in every day they had done something. Their birthdate for example, and some promotions ..... wouldn't it be fair enough to remember our dead relatives for at least one day a year?

Not a Catholic here .... but I practice the said tradition becaused my grandfather was the one who take care of me ....

We celebrate All Souls Day in memory of those who left before us. This custom is widely practiced in many countries with Spanish influence, notably Mexico. You say "why not celebrate saints in church instead of the dead". Are there living saints in your church? Then you seem to contradict yourself by saying "It is even right for us to live holy lives".

I understand you belong to a religion different from Catholicism. But you have no right to criticize others for their beliefs.

My neighborhood is constantly visited by door to door Jehovah's Witness, Mormon young boys, and other so-called cults. I graciously greet them but politely turn them away before they could start preaching on me.

That is the proper way to promote love, peace and understanding among religions.

im just wandering what's the difference between all souls day and halloween, in europe is unusual celebration, they developed it just few years ago, perhaps 5 years but this celebration is tradition of the americans and england as they are the same skin!!

it's true, it's pagans practice and not biblical. i don't have much explanation since im not fond of this one but i might make a research in the library and put on the net, besides historical people says it is based on the flood of Noa since it falls on the right period of the year, i'm not certain i will make a research when i get time

I am a foriegner living in Manila and I have been wondering about that, too. Sometimes it seems there is more concetration and effort excerted toward the dead than on the living. I think it is because that is the tradition.

By the way... Can you just kidnap me and take me to Isabella and keep me at your farm. I envy the peace and quiet. I must admit, though, that the typhoons in that area worry me. The governers brother told me its very remote and natural, but very prone to landslides and flooding.

Obviously, if you think you have no soul, then such celebration will not be held as part of commemorating those people who had been long pass.

Your time will also come, would you agree that your love ones will easily forget you, of course not because Spanish been given us this kind of belief.

We celebrate all souls day just to remember our departed loved ones......sort of recalling their memories when they are still alive and with us.

Remember, all of us are going to die someday. So I hope the dead people you pissed off with your comment today aren't there to meet you when you do.
