How much could I expect to pay in the UK for allergy testing on my dog?
Around 2 months ago, my dog has developed an allergy to something, we are not sure what. She is regularly treated for fleas, along with our 2 cats at 4 weekly intervals, however I'm not ruling out a flea allergy completely as fleas could still be in the environment. I'm assuming its something else though either in the environment or something in her food. She has had one course of steroids from the vets which although worked initially, the side effects were worrying. She is now scratching again and has a few spots/hives on her thighs and tummy. I am considering allergy testing, but I am assuming it is very expensive? Anyone had it done? What could I use to calm it temporarily asside from steroids. I really hope its more of a seasonal thing and things improve once the really cold weather comes. Any tips and advice would be appreciated.

Google canine allergy testing cost
Give Benadryl 2 times per day for 3 days. If you see no improvement it is unlikely to be an environmental allergy.
Gradually transition (2 - 4 weeks) to a grain free food. Common allergens are chicken, beef, corn, wheat, soy and artificial preservatives. Below is a link to the best grain free foods.

Bathe in a hydrocortisone sampoo. Also, try Zymox shampoo.

I would agree with Dorothy on this one. Before going into what could be expensive treatment (and many vets will be only to happy to separate you from a goodly sum of money to investigate this!) why not start her on a desensitising diet. Take her off anything she's normally eating and start her on something she's never had before. For this I'd suggest fish, and potato. I did this (not for allergies, but for a sensitive tummy situation) starting by home-cooking coley and mashed potato. As, after a few weeks on this (and it will take weeks rather than days) I found Arden Grange (UK) make a commercial fish and potato diet, using haddock which actually he's still on. If you do this, and get a good response, then, if you like, you gradually start reintroducing food that she's had before and see what happens.
For prices, phone round your local vets - but beware, going down this road may not give you the answers you hope for. Also, I have to say don't be pressed into buying food like Science Diet, which most vets are paid to sell! This is a rubbish food.
I'd also suggest you might find a homoeopathic vet who might help you with treatment that doesn't include steroids.
Also, if you are in the UK, and live in a country area where they grow crops, you could find you have been suffering from Harvest Mites. I've not heard as much about these in recent years (and thankfully we now live with livestock, not crops, so no Harvest Mites - much as we now have ticks!) but they used to play havoc with my lot at the back end of each summer - me too. These critters went, with the first frosts.

teach your dog to come when called. Use a long line, call your dog if he does not come your correction will be to pop the dog into you and praise him. Read here https://tr.im/gsrNo
You could use a clicker. Call your dog when she comes click and treat.
The treat has to be something your dog is nuts over. As the handler you have to be more interesting then what is across the street. Use your imagination, I have worked with dogs in the past when the owners called their dog they would turn and start walking the opposite direction then just sit down. The dog out of curiosity would come back to check on the owner. Do not chase your dog. Dogs tend to enjoy the chase game. You did not mention if your dog is bolting out of the door to get out or not. If this is the case teach your dog the wait command at the door. This means no you can not go this time. This is a problem that a lot of people have if their dogs. If you take a lot of time with your dog and are consistent with your training it will work. If your parents see that you are working hard to fix the problem and they see an improvement in your dog your chances will be better for keeping her. Also have you thought of doing 4-H with your dog?

For some daft reason, vets don't seem to have cottoned on to the fact that a large % of dogs cannot cope with grain. Perhaps if they do, they would rather charge for expensive medication. Try the following before you consider allergy testing.
I have learnt by my mistakes. My present dog had dreadful problems because of the food which I gave her, I experimented with dog food, I tried raw diets, cooked diets and over the years I tried various dog foods. She did not like the raw diets and the dog food that I gave her resulted in diarrhoea. As an experienced dog owner I introduced any changes gradually. Nevertheless my dog still had problems.
Eventually, because of my researches on the Internet I found that the experts have discovered that GRAIN in our dog’s diet causes many problems. I now know that grain creates acidity in the blood. This causes skin problems, digestive issues, allergies, sickness, constipation, diarrhoea, anal gland problems etc.,
If your dog has skin problems or any of the above problems PLEASE CHANGE THE DIET. Avoid Grain, rice, beef derivatives and dairy food. Try a diet which is fish based and grain free, don’t forget that rice is also classed as grain.
A rapid change of diet will upset your dog; any change of diet must be done gradually. Do please change to a grain free diet. I have had sixteen dogs throughout the years and they have had various problems. Perhaps if I had known about the dangers of GRAIN they would have had fewer problems.
