can you make yourself forget something?

like if something really terrible happened to you that you don't want to remember,can you make yourself forget it ever happened?

    I don't agree that alcohol and drugs are helpful in coping with pain we have as human tend to dwell on the negative aspects of our lives including tramatic experiences even long after they've happened I've learned to block them out by not allowing the thought to settle I quickly think about something else and that helps a lot by not dwelling on it and in time you will forget

    Actually, you can. Sort of.

    Say this event was something you did or caused, if you just keep telling yourself that it didn't happen, or it happened another way, eventually you will believe this.

    The same theory goes for almost any thing.

    Two options pal.

    1.) Heaps of alcohol and drugs. try and overdose.

    2.) Hit yourself with a blunt object until your doctor tells you that you have a life-threatning concussion.

    No you have to learn to deal,with the pain you have from that memory or it will cause you more pain and make your life worse
