Has anyone here ever had a helmet stolen?
I just answered a question about the location of the helmet lock on a bike, and started thinking that I never use the helmet locks on my bikes. I've never had one stolen and don't know anyone who has.
Does helmet theft really happen?
BTW - I'm in the Los Angeles area.

55 years without my hard-hat being ripped off.
But I'm a sh!t-head and the pleasant aroma that wafts from my helmets stings the eyes. ;D

About 30 years ago, I was in the habit of locking my helmet onto the helmet lock on the '76 Honda CJ-360T I owned at the time. One night, some scum cut the strap with a razor, and stole it. I have never used a helmet lock since! My helmet goes where I go....The Doctor, Church, Grocery Shopping, etc!

I would like to thank everyone for posting stories of lost helmets. I have become lax in my care of my helmet, seduced by good fortune in locking it only by the chin strap on my motor bike lock. Least of all protection as the insurance industry states, lock it up in a helmet bag sight unseen thieves are unsure of content and may avoid it. I believe I will press my helmet into becoming more social with me and take it further into the places I visit at my side.
thank you everyone!

Its kinda funny that you're in LA cause when we went on a cross country trip from DC, we almost got our helmets stolen at a gas station right outside of LA. He was loading them into his van when we finally ran up on him and he had to give em back, he had just picked them up off the seats of our bikes while we were paying for the gas. Thats ever happened before or since.

Yes like I answered in your previous post,a 400 dollar Arai helmet. The sad thing was ,it was at a bike show where there was 10,000 bikes parked.Just an inch of strap and the loop in the helmet lock was all that was left

No, never hand any problems and most of the time I leave my helmet sitting on the handle bar or mirror. Perhaps if I was in a big city I would be more concerned but out in rural area like I am it is not a big concern.

I have never had my helmet stolen off my motorcycle. But I was doing a trail on my dirtbike and the trail went to the gas station. I went inside to pay for the gas and I got the helmet stolen off the handlebars! I was in the gas station for a total of 2 minutes and it was stolen!

size a top box up to fit on the back, helmet then goes in there. You might also want to consider a motion sensor alarm.

Me, no. But some of my friends have.
Pretty ridiculous if you ask me since they had to cut the strap, rendering the helmet useless

Lost two out of my front yard one day.
Had a strap cut on another. Didn't understand that one - cut it to steal it and make it not worth stealing at the same time?
