My dog misbehaves when I'm not around. How can I stop this?

I have a 3 year old American Eskimo dog. She's very affectionate and follows people around. She's obedient around me and my boyfriend. But when we leave her alone in the house for a while, she starts to tear up the place, gets into whatever food she can reach. So far she has torn up an instant coffee packet which made a stain on the couch, took out a take out box from the trash can and ate the bones of ribs and ate lip balm, found her bag of dog treats twice and somehow got it and tore them up, almost opened a box of chocolates (thank God she didn't), and when I just left the room to do dishes, she got my to my chicken flatbread sandwich. I don't understand. She has dog food that she likes to eat and we leave enough food in her bowl. Why does she misbehave and how can I prevent this from happening?

This is classic separation anxiety. Dogs get pissy when their owners leave them. They don't understand that we have to work in order to buy them food. All they know is that we leave them sometimes and they don't like it.

If she is good in a crate that is your best option. If not, take measures to keep her away from the things she gets into. Buy a garbage can with a push pedal lid. Hide the make-up. Put dog treats in a closet. If even this is presenting an issue, confine her to 1 semi-empty room or buy baby gates.

All you have to do is buy a crate and crate her when you are not home or when she can't be supervised. She behaves this way because she's not properly trained.

ADD: Rachel, you whip your dog when it gets into the trash. That is abuse and if you are going to continue doing that, then you should not have a dog. Try training your dog, instead of Abusing it.

put her in a room where she can't destroy anything or put her in a kennel when you leave. she evidently has anxiety issues when left alone.
