What could be causing my lower back pains?

I'm only teenager so it's not just age. I'm not particularly athletic I spend my day at school and playing music primarily on flute. Could it my posture while playing that's causing my back pains? It's a constant pain right in the arch of my back and advil doesn't really get rid of it. Any ideas how to make the pain go away?

    There are actually many different causes of lower back pain, however if it happening when you are seated then this will because you have a poor posture. If you start to slouch when using a computer your back will be subjected to unnatural stresses. This will put extra pressure on the ligaments and spinal cord. This can weaken the spinal cord which makes lower back pain much more likely.

    When we are sitting down for long periods of time we can start to get tired, this will cause us to naturally bend forward. There is also a problem with the types of chairs that we sit in, most of these have a rounded back which forces our back into positions that it doesn’t want to be in. A rounded seat may seem comfortable however it will put excess pressure on the discs in the lower back.

    We don’t just sit down to use a computer; we also spend a long time seated when we are in cars or planes. You can’t get up and stretch your legs in a car; however you should be able to stand up on a plane to stretch your legs. Sitting in these chairs for too long will reduce the blood supply to the lower back which weakens it and could cause it to ache.

    By understanding the causes of lower back pain while seated you should be able to use this to avoid the problem in the future. You should stand up as much as possible and give your body a good stretch. Don’t allow yourself to get tired and slouch, instead take a few minutes so stretch and improve the health of your spine.

    Exercises for Lower Back Pain – 1

    Start by lying on your back on your bed, bend one knee and then slowly start to move this towards your chest. Make sure that while you are doing this you are pressing your lower back against the mattress. Try to hold this position until you start to feel it becoming uncomfortable. Then relax and lie down again, repeat this exercise with the other knee.

    Once you have done one repetition you should repeat the same thing on both knees another 4 times. Once you get more experienced you can increase the number of sets that you do.

    Exercises for Lower Back Pain – 2

    Lie down on your back and keep your arms relaxed by laying down beside your sides. Keep your knees flat on the floor or bed and bend your knees. Your lower back should be pressed firmly against the floor and you will notice that your hips should start to rise. Hold this position for 10 seconds and then relax. Repeat the exercise several times; gradually increase the length of time you hold the position for so that eventually you are holding for one minute.

    Lie down on the floor and keep your lower back pressed against the floor. Cross your arms and put them onto your chest. Lift your head and tuck it into your chest, make sure that your back is still flat against the floor. Tighten the muscles in your abdomen while your head and shoulders are lifted off the floor. Try to hold this position for 10 seconds or until it is too uncomfortable. Then relax and repeat the exercise another 4 times. Try to gradually increase the length of time you are holding the position for, and also increase the number of repetitions.

    Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.

    I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica. Try a reputable chiropractor ASAP!

    My daughter just called me, She is only 6 weeks pregnant and already having really bad lower back pain. I called her doctor and he said that it was pretty much normal and to use a heating pad.

    I get that all the time. It is probably posture, so every time you can, just stretch your back out, that might help prevent the pain from getting worse.

    It can be caused by stress... ive had the same problems before and when i got advice i got told its from stress...after going on holiday it disappeared... maybe you need some "you" time :)
