What brand furniture would be the best investment for a living room?

We are hoping to make a last time investment in a quality brand furniture that can stand the test of time with everything from babies, teens and three very playful dogs. We are thinking a quality leather would be our best choice and since this will be furniture that will need to last for our senior years, we were hoping that someone could suggest a reasonable yet study plus comfortable brand. We don't need the top of the line but something that that can do the job for years to come. All suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you!

If you have 3 dogs & grandchildren leather furniture is not a good choice because of the dogs sharp nails they could & will scratch the leather or tear it ,also kids toys too. My daughter has leather & said her dogs are always jumping on it & she try's to cover it but leather is slippery. It is also cold & not cozy or comfortable & as you get older your bones ache & you can't cuddle up on leather thats why they always say leather couches are for bachelors !! When you go shopping for new furniture the sales people are very well informed on what kind of furniture will fit your needs & what fabrics can withstand kids & dogs & spills.so let them be your guide .

Leather is a horrible choice for children and pets because it is too absorbent and can be easily damaged. Get mid grade furniture with machine washable and replaceable slip covers. All you will end up doing is creating stress when you fret over babies and animals vomiting and spilling food and teenagers sprawling on your "precious investment". In fact, better to get some sturdy older used furnishings and throw slipcovers over them. My aunt and uncle had 5 active kids, all a year apart, and plenty of pets. They decided to be smart about the realities of family life and had linoleum floors put in their house when they built it and then only had old used furniture until the last kid left for college. This made life so much easier and when we were kids we loved visiting there -- no yelling at anyone for eating on the couch or putting their feet on the coffee table or letting the dogs in the living room. When the kids were all gone, the aunt and uncle had hardwood floors and nice carpet put in the house and bought quality furniture. The truth is that the 5 cousins raised in that kid-centered house grew up to be more successful and mentally healthy than my other cousins who were raised in ultra clean homes with nice furniture where they were always being yelled at. No kid wants to feel that a stupid couch is more important to their parents than they are.

Besides, you are likely to get sick of the style of any furniture long before your "senior years". Even with the finest built furniture like Stickley (which costs thousands of dollars per piece) you still have to periodically replace all the upholstery and cushioning, which breaks down with usage and fading.

i can see investing in high end all wood furnishings like dining table and chairs or a bedroom set (headboard and dressers), but upholstered furniture has a limited lifespan, gets heavy use and is a poor "investment'."

Good mid-range furniture brands are Arhaus, Rowe (which makes many slipcovered styles) and Henredon. But, again, don't count on getting a "lifetime" sofa unless you are willing to pay as much or more than the original cost to reupholster it after the kids and pets are gone.

Antiques. They always retain their value. If you buy an antique piece of furniture today for $100. and need to sell out later, chances are you will be able to recoup your money.
