i have usb connection for my dcr-trv260 sony handycam but i don't know what to do after?
i set the usb stream to on. i only have a laptop so i don't think i can install a firewire card.

Does your laptop have maybe a PCMCIA or ExpressCard slot? If so, purchase and install a FireWire card. Some laptops do have those slots! My previous one did.
If not, you'll have to fall back to something like the Dazzle by Pinnacle/Avid, and digitize over USB. You'll lose some quality compared to FireWire, and you won't be able to use the features that the original tape timecode would let you use, such as the ability to re-capture the tape, frame-accurate, if you ever delete the media. However, it's better than nothing.
