LSU Alabama Predictions?
Not much more can be said about this game. It's been broken down and picked apart for the past two weeks by everyone with a voice, and it all boils down to the same core things: number one at number two, the great equalizing force in a 1 v 2 matchup. Both teams have incredible defenses, although I give LSU the edge. They seem to get some beasts, probably pluck em from the bayou. Also, LSU's played better competition thus far. Both teams have gamebreakers on offense, Bama has Trent Richardson who has the ability to wear a defense down. LSU's Reuben Randle is a monster, and I think he's underrated. Personally, I think LSU has a much more versatile offense with two QBs, both of whom I like better than AJ McCarron because of their experience. Not only that, LSU has a bruising tailback in Ware, along with a good stable behind him. The defenses are a wash. It boils down to offense in my eyes, and LSU can pass and run, while I think Bama's passing game can and will be shut down.
I'm taking LSU, 20-13. I just think they have more playmakers on offense whereas Bama relies heavily on running the ball and will face a lot of 8 man fronts. Still, Bama's massive O Line can very well win the trench fights and allow their running game to chew up clock and wear down LSU's defense. Count on a trick play or something creative from Les Miles, which makes this game more exciting, to me at least. Should be good, will definitely be close, and the entire experience will be unreal.
What do you think?
James, you make a lot of great points. I did mention the homefield advantage, although not very clearly (my bad). You're probably right about Bama's defense having more man for man talent, but who says LSU's defense won't continue it's big play ways in this game? I think they can take advantage of AJ McCarron's inexperience, especially with the Honey Badger flying around and forcing turnovers. All the people who are predicting scores in the 30s and 40s... Seriously? It's just not gonna happen.

Although I hear where you are coming from, I disagree. I think Albama has the better defense as they are more complete player for player. As many of the people talking about this game on ESPN and such have pointed out, LSU is more a "big play" and/or turnover defense. They rely on those plays to help them out. Don't get me wrong, their defense is plenty good, I just don't think it's as good as Alamba's. If an opponent was able to line up against each team and just run 100 plays, no matter the outcome, I think LSU would give up way more yards.
When I think about these two teams, I think they are insanely close! Think about the Gators. Each teama played Florida. Bama went to Florida and won 38-10. They also knocked Brantley out of the game. The next week LSU hosted Florida and won 41-11. It's amazing how close the scores and stats were.
As for your whole the defenses wash out, so it comes down to offense that is where I think you are really wrong. Like I said, I think LSU depends a bit more on turnovers and such. Thus, I think Alabama and Richardson will be able to find some success. If so, that will open up the play-action and McCarron won't have to be great. Honestly, none of the QBs are great in terms of being true NFL style QBs.
And the one thing you didn't mention is home field advantage. Remember, these are only kids...ok, super athleticly gifted kids, but they are far from pros. I really think Alamba will have an emotional edge.
It will be a great game, but I think Alamba will protect the ball, limit LSU to basically no big plays, and in the end Richardson will help grin out a win. And as I said, when the Tide needs something extra, the crowd will be right there. Alabama 20 LSU 17
And then, later in the season, the Tide will get upset and all hell is going to break lose with the BCS...sad, but no joke I think it will happen!

Lol I agree about the high scores! Unless there are a bunch of big turnovers (pick-6s and such) the scoring should stay low. As for the LSU continuing their big play, as I mentioned I think Bama will play safe. I'd think they will only ask AJ to do what he can. Like I said, I thinkn their game plan will mostly be a ground and pound.
Oh, and sadly, let's face it, the guys that may truly have the game on their shoulders, or foot, is the darn kickers! How often do we see that in these big games? I am still mad at the Panthers kicker (Mare) for missing that chip shot on Sunday against the Vikings!

I completely agree with James on this one. And cold, i think you might be misinformed on some of your points there... While LSU's defense is good, Alabama's is clearly better. I don't see how you could deny that when they've played 2 shutouts and only average giving up under 7 points per game. And the most anybody's scored on them is Arkansas with 14. I also think LSU's double QB system is overrated because it easily get the team out of rhythm. I'm not saying McCarron is the next tom brady or anything, but he's getting better and he manages the game pretty well.
I'll take Alabama 28-17. You give Nick Saban time to prepare and he almost always gets the job done.

Whoever says that Alabama has more man for man talent on defense hasn't watched LSU this year, or they don't know what they're watching. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. LSU's defense might be the best I've ever seen. They are so damn fast. And it's not just the starters, their backups are unbelievable. The backups could start on every defense in the country outside of Alabama. The only reason Alabama will be in this game is because it's a home game. LSU is a better, faster team. LSU 19-17.

I think Trent Richardson will be removed from the equation early like he was the last time he faced an LSU defense. LSU has depth in key positions and Les Miles keeps them rotated enough to prevent them from getting worn down. Alabama is notorious for slow starts so by the time they finally get ready to play some football the score will be too lop-sided to depend on the run. McCarron will be forced to make plays with his arm which is respectable but still not proven in such hostile circumstances. Home field is of little advantage in this game as there will be as many Tiger fans as there are Tide fans in the stadium. I still want to remind the kind folks over in Alabama that y'all got beat by UL Monroe in that same stadium 21-14 on November 17, 2007. Alabama was shut out in the second half and Nick Saban was the coach. Alabama threw two interceptions and lost two fumbles. Now, how is that about home field advantage again. LSU wins 38 to 21.

I'd say LSU could win sixteen-12 in a most likely subject target fought recreation. Bama can't win in a impartial web site if it hasn't even beat quantity one at dwelling. Plus, Alabama used to be fortunate simply to be within the NCG recreation.

Well, let's see...the game is in Tuscaloosa and Alabama is a 5 point favorite according to the oddsmakers. I'll go with LSU on this one. Nothing like telling Les Miles that he's not going to win and you know he's going to be pulling a rabbit out of that hat that he wears.

I also picked LSU to win, and we're really close on our scores. I picked 23-13 Tigers. I wrote an article about this weekend's big games (including this one) for my blog at http://bikinihill.blogspot.com/ if you're interested in reading it. Enjoy the game!
