I danced salsa quick-quick-slow, quick-quick-slow but was told I am wrong?
I have been dancing salsa for a long time. While I have done On1 as well as On2, the basic rhythm was always quick-quick-slow, quick-quick-slow. When I travelled to Spain recently, I went to a salsa social dance and was told that the way they do it in that town is quick-slow-quick which totally threw me off beat. Is it true that there are enclaves who dance salsa to a quick-slow-quick? I have never ever heard of that rhythm for salsa before and I dance it a LOT.

Pattern and beat do not change. if you can follow, how/when the lead starts shouldn't make a difference to you. as far as 1) quick-quick-slow versus 2) quick-slow-quick, run them together...
1) quick - quick - slow - quick - quick - slow - quick - quick - slow...etc.
2)quick - slow - quick - quick - slow - quick - quick - slow - quick...etc.
You still end up with the same rhythm. You're just starting on a different beat or different part of the same pattern/rhythm. Bet you were starting with a different direction or on a different beat, too. Don't over think it.
Every area has its own way of doing things, whether it be Salsa, West Coast, Tango, or whatever. We follows adapt. That's part of the joy of getting to follow, we don't have to think so much! :) We just follow what our lead is giving us; new steps, different count, etc.
