Yeast diaper rash just getting worse?

My 14 month old was starting to get a diaper rash and nothing seemed to cure it so we took her to the doctor and they said she had a yeast diaper rash from her yeast infection. They prescribed a nystatin cream to apply to the rash for her. I've been using it for about 24 hours now and the rash just seems to be getting worse. I also gave my daughter a baking soda bath and am letting her sleep completely naked because I don't want her to be miserable anymore. What else can I do? Does the nystatin work well? I'm just not seeing any results at all yet...

My dd use to get these and the best thing I found to do was us a thin layer of an over the counter anti- fungal cream and a layer of diaper rash cream (Boudreaux's Butt Paste is the best if you can find it). Usually the next day it would pretty much be cleared up. Also do not use baby wipes, use a warm wash cloth to clean her and pat dry and reapply the creams after each change.

Give it a day, but absolutely DO NOT use powder on the butt. Yeast is a living thing that requires food to live. Baby powder provides food that the yeast thrives on. You would be serving up a banquet. Change diaper often as a dark/wet environment is also loved by yeast. Letting the area dry out is a good idea. A NICU nurse told me that sometimes they put a bright light over the butt to help dry the skin out. Of course that requires the child to be face down. Just make sure the child doesn't get overheated.

My son had a yeast infection on his butt. The pediatrician basically prescribed Monistat 7. Within 36 hours there was a HUGE difference. The pediatrician also warned me against using baby powder.

Start her on a probiotic. It's basically the same as eating yogurt for a yeast infection but without the sugar which feeds the yeast. Get culturelle, which dr sears recommends, open the capsule and mix it with a bit of cool water or food. Keep using for 2 weeks after rash is gone.

I also found that over the counter lotrimin cream 3x per day worked better than nystatin. It's for jock itch or athletes foot. Active ingredient clotromizine (sp?)

Give it a few days. If the rash appears to be getting worse and worse, go back to your doctor. They may need to prescribe something stronger.
