how would you finish a rough cut piece of maple limb cut to make a clock face?

I had a maple I had to take down and had a round limb that I cut in 3/4 inch slices with the bark on and want to make clocks out of them. What should I use to finish them as I want them rough not sanded?

Update:

I want to have a gloss finish on these clock faces and keep them from drying out and splitting out
