Daughter wants to be "emo"?
She's looking for an identity. She's going on 13 and is going thru the usual rebel tween emotions. Is Emo all that bad? Should I cut her some slack?

I hope you do know what's the difference between 'EMO' and 'SCENE'??
Emo is not short for 'emotional' but short for 'emotive'.
Emotive is that introversion, depression, sorrow you see on emo people.
Scene is the colourful hair,makeup,etc... Y
ou can be Emo without being scene and vice-versa. I think you're daughter most likely want to be Scene while pretending to be emotive... Such drama occurs among teens. She'll grow out of it.
What you should do is let her know that you'll always be there for her, emo/scene or not

Emo is, from what I've seen, generally just a phase. My sister and a few of my old friends were 'emo' between the ages of 12-15. As long as she doesn't try cutting herself. A few of my younger sister's friends did that for a while and my sister almost tried it out of peer pressure. Try and have a good relationship with your daughter. 'Emo's get quite a lot of slack from their peers, as well as a few older people too so try to be there for her. She will probably grow out it in a couple of years when she finds herself. Teenage years, especially early teens, is quite a difficult time for many people and people feel lost. Like you said, she's looking for an identity.

First of all " emo" means emotional. Not hand cutter, she obviously doesn't know what it really means or she wouldn't ask and be like "mommy I wanna be emo," or "I wanna dress emo" which means she's probably not depressed like some real emotional people are. Cut her some slack trust me, I'm still a teen and went threw that age so I know what I'm talking about, she's younger so mostly going threw the rebel emotions just like I did. Same time around that age too. But remember, talk to her. She acts depressive, starts cutting herself take her to the conselour because she may not want to talk to you.

emo means emotional, also a type of music genre.
SOME cut themselves to release their stress, anger, sadness, and other emotions.
Yes it's a little dark but most just go through a phase and get over it. some don't.
I went through the same thing when I was 13, and got over it.
Hopefully she does too(:
good luck!

Is she keen to compromise? There are some types that she would be able of do a "female" mohawk, that would not require any head shaving, yet nevertheless looks "selection". Its fairly reducing the hair approximately 2 inches shorter on the facets and leaving it longer on ideal, yet not shaving it off. you could bobbypin the longer section right into a mohawk. it relatively is extra conservative than going all out. Edit: good day daughter! gorgeous coiffure!!! If i did not get so freaked out by utilising short hair, i might do it!! great %.!!!

Cut her some slack. I've been there, and my stepmother was the ultimate terror. I was very body conscious, and as a result I wore alot of black. Not realizing this, she took every opportunity to make fun of my outfits in order to force me to change. This only made me more unhappy, and it made our relationship very strained.
Unless your child is cutting herself, you have no problem. If she is depressed/cutting herself, get her to a professional. As much as you may want to talk her through tough times as a mother, this is something she should talk about with someone who isn't so close to her. Let her wear what she wants.

It's just a fashion based on a music subculture...A lot of people have this idea that it involves cutting yourself, but that's not entirely true, and it's really just the posers looking for attention who do it.
I'd cut her some slack, yes.

Emo usually means someone who cuts themselves.

Emo is just a little wannabe poser style of clothing and music, it's pretty harmless. While it's harmless...you may want to influence individuality.

what is a emo? I would but at the same time keep your eye on her at a distance, trust her and she will talk to you.
