Would you say art is a natural born talent?
I am thinking about taking art as a gcse. The only problem is I'm not very good at art but I love learning about it and drawing ect...
I am probably one of the slowest in the class because I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I always have to neaten things up and if I see one little mistake I have to fix it.
I really want to be able to draw really good pictures so I was wondering if I keep practising will I get any better or is it just a natural talent and I won't improve in art?
Thank you for your time x

Yes, it is a natural talent, and yes, you can improve. Art classes can teach anyone who really wants to learn, and who puts in the practice, how to draw paint etc. No one can teach that stroke of natural talent or genius but if you enjoy drawing then taking classes is a great idea. You will get better if you take classes and practice, but you may never be a super-talented artist. It's the same for musicians. Anyone can learn to play most any instrument well and to enjoy doing it but geniuses are born. That doesn't mean we shouldn't still enjoy making music or art even if we aren't born to be deeply talented in those areas,

The saying 'practice makes perfect' was invented for a reason, and you obviously have the willpower to put that practice in. For example, last year i started drawing manga in my free time. It was nothing fancy, but it has so very much improved.
However, art is original, but by no means are we born with a certain talent; developmental thinking states that all our behaviour and knowledge is learned, and whilst there are contradictions, it is still our own will to seek it out
So no, art is not a naturally born talent. It exists if you allow it to; if you want to take the course then go for it. You sound determined, and perfectionism is always a good aspect of an artist. :)

It absolutely is a natural born talent. And since we are all born and natural and talented, art should be second nature. Art is an expression of one self. Whether someone says it is good or bad would have to have a certain level of vanity to judge you.

How about taking an art program in a local library or the community center? You need some supplies for art such as a sketchbook, pencil crayons, paintbrushes and water color paint so you shouldn't have problem with art class because you are still learning step by step but who know that someday when you become an artist or a art teacher. Good luck for taking an art course and I hope that you did well with the course that you take this semester.

I think there is a little bit of a problem with your question as "art" encompasses a lot of different things. I do think people are hard-wired with different attributes, strengths, weaknesses and abilities. However, for reasons that aren't totally clear, people tend to attribute creativity in visual arts as something one can only have through the mysteries of nature, genetics, etc. Assuming you have the aptitude, which mostly means enough interest to stick with it, ideally enough to want to work at it more than anything else, you can become a great artist. What that means, unfortunately, is totally open to interpretation. You might become a great painter or illustrator, but those skills are developed over time through practice and often training. These are distinct skills from conceptual creativity or verbal or sequential. In other words, your creative pursuit in art could be just about anything at all. The most important factor, I would argue, is having the passion to pursue it and become great. One in a million (if that many) are somehow born with freakish skills. Everyone else has to work at it. People who think they have it, that they were born with something special, often turn out to be less than great. I've seen this many times: great natural ability, leading to complacency, half hearted effort, and then a form of denial mixed with arrogance that alienates them from their peers. So, I would amend my rule, or add to it, by saying that IF you happen to be blessed with incredible natural ability, you will need a measure of humility equal to your passion.

the question itself is different from the explanation but i'll answer both. firstly art isn't summed up by having natural talent, all art is expression. that's it. you don't have to be able to draw neat pictures and finely detailed scenarios. i promise you. art is about putting feeling and character into something and usually you can achieve that with less accuracy in your drawings and exaggerating shape, colour and subject to leave an impression on the viewer. nobody can fully depict something accurately so don't worry about that. think about what you'd like to show in your drawings, something personal. taking inspirations from music, film and other art is probably a natural first step at your age. so start looking and learning. and don't give up, ever. if you have the interest and determination nothing can stop you.

Anyone can learn the techniques required, but it takes a special mind to get the inspiration for works of art. I learned how to draw very quickly and I know how to use different pencils and how to make shadows and texture etc. BUT I never draw because I'm not very artistic and don't feel any inspiration.
I know HOW to make art, but I could never be an artist. If you like to express yourself through drawing and art is your passion, you'll do very well.

the will and imagination to create beauty is the natural born talent - the art part is a technical skill that has to be learned.
someone can learn the technicality of art and be able to draw anything and everything flawlessly - but that doesn't make them creative.

Yep...
I would say it is innate to the early learning curve within the child's brain function. Exposure to a fertile creative environment, fostered by a community of encouraging people. Allowing freedom of expression with positive reinforcement.
Maybe your art is in Sculpture, in mixed media or kinetic art.
