Does anyone know about text to speech software thats free? To read kindle or web pages?
My parents are becoming more visually impaired. I'm looking to configure their computers with some text to speech abilities if there is anything out there that's free and easy to use. Can anyone recommend a way to do this for free? They have kindle for pc on their computer, and I downloaded Jaws which is supposed to do that, but it's a bit confusing even for me. Does Windows 7 have anything that can just read the current open page? I'm looking for easy to use.

Ubuntu has a superior TTS. It's called Orca. But, just about all platforms have "Access" as it is called.
Both Windows and Linux have the freeware Calibre available which I found to be the most powerful ePub file / display program.
But, I'll tell you that your folks would be MUCH happier with the Kindle.
