So confused And Lost, Not Sure I Believe In God Any More?

Is there really any meaning to life. i know people like to say there is. but realistically speaking, most likely were are just alive here on earth for a short period of time, no particular reason. we die and that's it right. i feel bad. my faith is sadly lacking lately. i used to be very religious. but lately, i have so many doubts. i keep thinking, what if religion is all false, its just something we have made up to comfort ourselves. but what if when we die that's it. we just die. there is nothing after that, no heaven or anything. that's just it. realistically ,that is probably the truth. i want to believe in religion and god, but i don't also want to be a fool and believe in something fake either. i dunno. i'm so lost. how do you have faith, in something with no actual proof. and don't just say the bible. There is no way of knowing how true that really is. It was written by humans. don't mean to offend any one. i'm just confused.

Update:

thanks every one. i appreciate all the advice.

You might start by asking yourself why you want to believe what you know ain't so, as Mark Twain put it. What do you imagine you will lose if you simply give up the attempt to believe in God, and substitute belief in good moral values, in facts and evidence and logic? Believe in yourself, and your ability to chart your own path.

    Hii :)

Everyone goes through those stages in life where they question the purpose of life... But when you think about it, WHY would we have been put on this earth only to die and then thats it... the end... doesn't this seem inaccurate to you? If there was no afterlife... no heaven or hell... how would justice be served on lets say a person who commits a murder and for the rest of his or her life does not get caught...

Putting heaven and hell into the equasion... you find that the righteous people in this life are provided with an eternity in paradise, and evil people in this life are punished according to their wrongdoing, UNLESS they have sincerely repented to GOD, and GOD alone... If you were to take some time to actually look into the different monotheistic religions, you will gind that they all convey the same ultimate message, of ONE GOD... but the most recent, perfected religion of the monotheistic religions is that of Islam... take the time to look into just a few verses of the Quran which clearly state scientific facts which have only today been discovered with the use of advanced technology... After you find these facts... ask yourself how a sheep hearder in the desert, an illiterate, uneducated man could have possibly known such facts which scientists have only discovered today... At the end of the day if you want the truth, and if you seek it, you WILL find it... just open your eyes and your mind... and most importantly your heart and don't allow the media's portrayal of Islam and Muslims be YOUR perception and understanding of Islam; the religion of complete and utter submission to God.

Well you would be justified into thinking most religions are false, because most are ! However honestly your best bet is to pray to Jehovah God, and tell Him what you feel, just like you did here, then ask Him to help you by guiding you to the religion that is teaching and practicing His Truth, and then show your faith by thanking Him in advance, and end off your prayer asking in Jesus name, if you do this, and put your complete faith and trust in our Creator, and His Son Christ Jesus, you will be guided ! That is the only way you will find out the Truth ! Rely only on the True God, and not on just anyone. Jehovah bless you always

You created a catch 22. We are lost with out the Bible but you don't want Biblical answers. You are a thinker and I like that. In fact a year ago I was asking what you are today. My faith in "religion" derailed sometime between HS & graduating college. I'd stay up all night THINKING. I'd go for long walks literally all night in deep thought. Anyway, the Bible proved itself to me in January. When I was lost, it was hard to disprove the Bible (I actually couldn't but I was just great at coming up with WHAT IF's that no one could answer) but it is SUPER easy to prove the Bible is true. Especially, when I compared it to my life. It had my situation down to a T. I'd have to be lying to myself to not admit I was wrong.

As for the purpose of life: we were created FOR God (Colossians 1:16, Revelation 4:11). Many say this is selfish but why do people have children? It's not for the benefit of the child. A person that is not fulfilling their purpose will always feel lost. "religion" is man made but truth is truth. That's what sets the Bible a part from religion. Confusion arises when people revise Gods word to fit religion but God's Word will always stand. Its tried and true. Want proof there is God? LIFE. Scientist that want to doubt the Bible have created a religion to explain life. It is taught in every school, it goes against the proven cell theory & findings of the 1660s yet people swallow that up as fact. Its a sad world we live in but I feel for you because I was RIGHT were you are and I had no idea what to think about anything. Feel free to contact me via my profile if you care to chat.

I think that everyone who believes has doubts at times.Believing in something you can't see is hard. Pray. Ask God to give you some kind of sign. Tell Him how you're feeling and really give your worries to Him and He will answer, maybe not in the way you expect, but you'll get an answer. I went through the same thing you are going through and I was deeply depressed for a while. My Mom told me when she was my age she went through all the same things and that one day she just woke up and COULD NOT worry about them anymore, so she stopped. She told me that the same would happen for me and she was right, it did. It wasn't right away but when it did happen I just had spent so much time obsessing over life and death and God and I couldn't do it anymore. It just went away . This will happen for you too. If you pray for guidance and try your best to be open to an answer, it will come and if it doesn't right away just know that some day you'll be so sick of obsessing over it that it will go away. I hope that this helps. It'll get better!

When we're ready to become a Christian, we're ready to have our first real conversation with God, and these are its components:

We acknowledge that Jesus Christ is God; that He came to earth as a man in order to live the sinless life that we cannot live; that He died in our place, so that we would not have to pay the penalty we deserve.

We confess our past life of sin -- living for ourselves and not obeying God.

We admit we are ready to trust Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord.

We ask Jesus to come into our heart, take up residence there, and begin living through us

That's a real confession!!! Well, first you got to know him and the only way that he will ever become real to you is if you know the truth about God. let's look at nature because God is nature. What about the trees in the fall? Right before winter comes, the leaves all fall off and grow right back whenever spring comes up again. Now what tells the sap in the tree to go down in the ground and come back up in the spring. See there is some intelligence to that isn't it.

Job in the bible said hide me in the ground til thy wrath (Death, winter) be passed.

I went through that too. And I sometimes wonder too, but every time, God seems to have an answer to help me. I find life more pleasing if you dont look at it as self-centered beings that we are. We are constantly seeking our own happiness when in reality God helps us when we help others. If you think your life is bad, just go to a third-world country for a mission trip and you will have your eyes opened. Trust me, live life to please God by helping others and you will see the blessing you will get. It doesn't have to be anything special either. Just something simple like opening the door for people or (my favorite) when you are buying some coffee, just purchase the coffee for someone behind in you in line.

Confusion is of Satan...it is one of his great lies he puts out. Stop thinking so much and do more reading of the Bible and let the Holy Spirit bring you back in contact with your Beloved Creator and Saviour. You are in a slump..but reading Scripture..Satan hates, and if you rebuke him in the name of Jesus Christ--he will flee from you. This is a Promise from God and it works..I use it all the time and I am just getting closer to God by the minute....cause Satan is getting further away. God be with you and remember to READ. This is were your Faith gets stronger.

You asked, "How do you have faith in something with no actual proof and don't just say the Bible."

Do you understand that faith comes by hearing the Word of God and do you understand what the Bible is about? It is not about religion. It is about our relationship with Jesus and God's love for us.

The Bible was written by God. Many men were used to script His words. This took place over 1600 years and the evidence is in the events and the purpose of the scriptures. The purpose of the entire Bible is to tell us about our condition of being separated from God because of our sins, God's plan to bring a Savior to die in our place for our sins, Jesus' birth, life, death and resurrection, that God's prophecy has taken place and about our invitation to belong to God as His adopted children through acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Lord and our Savior.

The Bible is God's written Word to us.

It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.

“Above all you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” 2 Peter 1:20-21. (New International Version)
