Rowing machine advice....length of work out and how often?

I am about 40 lbs overweight and 50 yrs. I walk 3 miles a day and actually eat well- the only thing that seems to work for me is to cut out all breads etc so I stay mostly vege and lean meat and water. This is fine but with the crazy heat and more in So CA and a remodel to our garage, I've gotten a rowing machine. I took the time to read the reviews on several sites etc so it's bought but how much of time and length would one recommend? Any other suggestions?! Thank you!

    For a good workout, I'd say go for a half hour or more. make sure you keep good form and change up the intensity. Start with a steady, go up to pick up (sprint strokes) for a few seconds to half a minute, go down to race pace which is just a touch slower for a minute or so and then do a steady or do speed work which is exclusively a steady followed by short bursts of sprints

    Most fitness trainers suggest that if you're going to focus on one activity, such as the rowing machine, you need to work out a minimum of 50-60 minutes 3-4 days a week. That way you reach your target heart weight and begin to burn fat. This also takes care of your caloric burn.
