Why do people blame the Democrats in 2003 for blocking Fannie Mae legislation?

When the Republicans controlled congress in 2003?

As if the Democrats didn't have good reason to support Republican legislation anyway!

Update:

And also in 2006. Same thing.

Obamabot - It looks like you are starting to ask good questions. Carter started the idea of government backed loans for folks who couldn't afford to buy a home. Clinton then expanded it and got Janet Reno to threaten banks with investigations if they didn't provide loans to future democrat voters. Then during the Bush years several times he and conservatives warned the program was out of control and needed to be stopped but Dodd and Frank and the black coccus claimed racism and the wimpy republicans backed down. Now fast forward to Obama who bailed out wall street and the banks and protected Fanny Mae and Mac rather than fess up to the problem.

I'm proud of you for asking the right questions however now if you can go the next step and see the reality.

Because they did. Three times the Republicans tried to fix the Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac problem and three times the Democrats blocked it. In 2003 they probably did it by filibuster

You don't need control of congress to stop legislation. people blame them because the DID block it.

btw - it's the people with your mentality toward politics (two highly segregated sides) that are destroying America. There is no victory without sacrifice, victory in this case being the continuing success of the US as a/the world superpower. The only way the US will come out of this economic situation is cooperation on both sides, something which neither Dem or GOP politicians are doing now.
