Hotels around Sydney?

We will be flying into Sydney on December 25th, and will be staying for a couple days before heading off to Canberra. We will be going back to Sydney for New Years Eve, and are wondering if anyone can tell of a good place to stay close to Sydney. We will be renting a car, so can drive a little distance, but would like to stay within about 20 minutes of Sydney.

If the previous info doesn't work, check whether your airline has accommodation packages available in Sydney - they just might have blocked booked some rooms.

WorldAdv, what a day to arrive into Sydney, You haven't mentioned a budget, but you have hotels right in the City like the Hyatt on Park, that's where I usually stay, The Intercontinental, Sydney Hilton. At a suburb just out of Sydney called Camperdown, you have a hotel called The Travellodge. Also if you have a Best Western Hotel near you, get their booklet for world wide motels or hotels. Also look at expedia.com or itravel2000.com for packages.

I usually fly One World, which is the American Airlines/Qantas alliance, and get great packages, and that's staying at the Hyatt on Park or Intercontinental.

Because of the season your arriving over there, you need to book ahead.

You will have a great deal of trouble finding a hotel in the city centre at Christmas NYE - these book out months in advance. I would also not advise driving into the city during these times (you can't on NYE anyway) - catch public transport instead.

I would suggest staying in the Eastern suburbs areas like:

Darlinghurst, Coogee, Bondi, Surry Hills, Paddington, Randwick, Bondi Junction - these are close to the city and have bus services that will get you there and back. There are lots of B&B's or hotels in these areas. Plus the Eastern Suburbs are regarded as some of the nicer parts of the city.

If you have a car check how much parking will cost you at your hotel - but don't drive into the heart of the city if you can avoid it - there are buses and trains to get you around without all the stress of driving.

Source(s): I live 5 mins drive from the middle of the city centre and travel around most parts of the greater city

Get on the Net --NOW. You are asking for hotel accom on Christmas Day and New Years Eve (forget it ) close to Sydney.

Do you not know people book out the city hotels a year in advance so they can have a private view of the fireworks ?

If you think you can swan into SYDNEY over that period and casually pick up hotel rooms anywhere near the city without having booked it up to a year ago---you are in for a rude shock. Get Googling and emailing NOW, and even then I don't think you have much chance.

What's your budget? If you're going to be there for New Years and you've got the money then stay in The Rocks. Will make it easy to get to / from the fireworks, if there are any rooms left. I was just there and stayed at the Shangri La - not superb but the best views of the harbor by far.

    G'day WorldAdventurer,

    Thank you for your question.

Wotif is probably the best site for booking accommodation.

That said, you would probably be looking for what's available especially on New Year's Eve.

    Regards
