Are women discriminated against when negotiating salaries?

Is it true that women are penalized more for trying to negotiate salaries even if they negotiate the exact same way that men do?

I'm sure there are some women who have been discriminated against by sexist bosses, but for the most part I see the opposite. AA is still alive in some places which encourages some employers to go a bit further to retain a woman than a man, especially minority women.

  • No - the very defnition of negotiating a salary means that you negotiatie what you get - there is not one shred of evidence to even suggest that women are treted differently in this regard.

If you hav ehard any such thing - you are listening to yet another mae-up story to suport the view that women are somehow victims if they are not paid the same.

(Harry) "Damn - I pulled every trick to get a bigger slaary - but I ended up with what I got! Company can't afford any more"

(Harriett) (ratchets eyebrows) "Damn I pulled every trick to get a bigger slary - but the bastard boss discriminated against me! I'll make up the balance by suing for discrimination or harassment!"

This whole 'wage gap' myth is just feminist bullshit. If women want the same pay as men, they can work the same number of hours. If anyone is being discriminated against it's the men who are getting the same pay as women despite working 10-15 hours more a week...

Well, assertive women are more likely to be viewed negatively in the workplace than assertive men. Studies have confirmed this.

Now, are women when negotiating (Finally! Like Old's Cool says, women stupidly think the boss will reward great results even if not asked) being discriminated against? I've never seen anything saying that. I think some women are more timid than almost all men are while negotiating. That could hinder them.

    I have never heard that.

I think women tend to not get the respect they deserve--or, actually, I think it's that men get respect they DO NOT deserve-- and that can be a kiler when you're trying to negotiate. I think I have read where many women think the manager will "do the right thing by them", so many women don't negotiate at all, then wonder why they don't get raises.
