Question directed to Wiccan and Pagans. What could this mean?
Please, any comments that are offensive or not on topic from non pagans and wiccans will be ignored.
I have a problem. Well not a problem, but something of an odd project. Please read the following story, it is important.
Recently while walking home, I discovered a length of old greened copper rod. I didn't think much of it, taking it home, until a few days ago. Looking at the rod, I found myself thinking "This would make a great Athame." It strikes me odd that I would think this, as I am not a Pagan nor Wiccan. I have no use for one, but yet that was my thought. I dragged my hobby forge out of storage, got some charcoal going (why I do not know, I could have used gas yet felt charcoal best) and set to work. All the while I was working the metal, it felt as though the blade was telling me what it wanted to be. From the curve, to the tip being cut off, to the soft twist of the rod that formed the handle. I found myself hearing this voice again and again, telling me to strike here, move that, and take my time. Not to worry about imperfections, because like the blade, humans were imperfect.
As I sit typing this, I have the blade before me. I finished it this evening (it took about 4 days work, counting finishing) and I find myself well pleased with it. There is a kind of archaic feel about it, though something tells me I am not done just yet. There is one thing lacking, which I plan on doing tomorrow. (Wrapping part of the handle.)
Given the fact that I've never made an Athame before, nor had an inclination to do so. Further more the fact that I'm not Wiccan or Pagan, what if anything does this act mean?

It certainly sounds like an encounter with Spirit. It sounds to me like you were directed by someone specifically how to forge that athame. The purpose for it is not readily apparent; the athame may be intended for you or for someone else. I suspect that in time you will be directed in a similar fashion what to do with it. Until then, I think you should just hang onto it.
You are very fortunate to have experienced this and I think if you react positively to it you will be rewarded in some fashion. I would consider the experience itself to be a blessing.

What you experienced was what the druids call "The Awen" which is just a fancy term for "creative energy" dressed up as spiritual guidance (that's not meant to belittle the belief, I share the belief in a manner as well, but I have no illusion that it means anything more than the joy of creativity). Essentially, if you felt good doing it and you feel good about the result, there's not much to question. Who cares why or what happened?
I mean, unless you care and you want it to happen again. If you want it to be a message from some kind of deity, then look into deities. If you want it to be a spirit-guide kind of thing, look into spirit-guides. If you are perfectly satisfied with your current belief system... well, I'm not sure you'd be asking this if you were, but whatever works for you.
Did you get any guidance or hints about what you aught to do with this lovely blade? Keep it? Display it? Use it for ritual? Sell it to a pagan who needs a copper athame? Does it have to be an "athame"? Couldn't it just be a beautiful knife/dagger?

Sounds beautiful.
You know yourself best, so I'm just going to toss out some things and see if any of them resonate with you.
An athame is the black handled "working" tool, the boline is the blade used for everything else on the altar/in Circle and has a white or light handle. Copper is associated with love. Coal is a "betwixt and between" item being neither stone, nor living (much like amber and jet). I assume you meant coal and not "charcoal" for working metal.
Makes me wonder if the Lady isn't talking to you. Every initiated Wiccan I've ever met has a similar " ok, that was odd" story about their first dip into the Mysteries. Worst case scenario, you've got a pretty cool craft project! (pun intended! :-)

I discovered I were a witch in yet another lifestyles from a psychic. I didn’t suppose in both till then. It hit my center difficult, she was once without doubt proper. From that day I've believed in reincarnation, that’s transformed my complete lifestyles for the bigger. I found out what a few of my beyond incarnations were, and it published me from fears that weren't from this lifetime. Through meditation, I've found out I have many psychic skills I by no means knew approximately. I love the perception of, “Do what you'll, however damage nobody.” If you learn the Principles Of Belief written by means of The Council of American Witches, it explains why I love the Wiccan faith such a lot. I am a solitary practitioner, so I am very cautious. I occur to be a Witch who worships the Christian God, however no longer the Old Testament one. The One that's in all of the religions I studied, simply a further tag on Him/Her. I placed what touched my center from each and every faith I studied, and further they all in combination. I ended up with a residing faith that grows and matures as I do. There’s such a lot I’d love to let you know, however I worry my house is used up. I could dearly like to be released. I desired to be a minister, however could not discover a faith I might rise up for, or suppose one hundred% of the time. Now I have it. Blessed Be

Well this is very interesting and you are lucky to have experienced this.
Something spoke to you, you do not have to make a name for it. Only you can truly figure out the message. But I recommend keeping the atheme. Obviously it means something to you if you feel it does.
Maybe you should look into Paganism and do some research? I mean it couldn't hurt to understand the different traditions, cultures, and religions.
But keep that atheme
