If a clock takes 3 seconds to strike 3, how many seconds does it take to strike 7?
I don't usually ask questions here, I usually answer them. But I have known so many highly qualified people who can't solve this that I am interested in the response I get.

The time interval between two strokes is 3/2 seconds (3 seconds for two intervals).
So to strike 7 times (6 intervals) would take 6 * 3/2 s = 9 s.

Anyone who says '7' is falling for a classical example of failing to understand how the original 'measurement' was taken ..
When timing strikes, we only START timing when we hear the first & STOP when we hear the last .. so the FIRST 'takes' 0 seconds .. and if 3 take 3 seconds then when we time from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd there must be 1.5 seconds BETWEEN each strike ....
Thus 7 strikes take 9 seconds ...

Well, as I understand the question, it says that the clock takes three seconds to strike 3 (three times). So, if it is required to strike 7, it will have to strike seven times. Hence, it would take seven seconds for that.

4? Or where is the clock starting from? As in, what number?
4 if it starts at 3, 7 is it starts at 12?
Just a guess :P

7 because it takes a second for each strike
