Windows 7 failed to start after Windows Update?

Today I installed all the updates of Windows 7 on my laptop via Windows Update and it asked me to restart the computer and I did so, but my laptop failed to start up Windows and it went to Startup Repair. It took ages to attempt repairs, maybe ten, fifteen or even twenty minutes, but I got the message stating that Windows couldn't repair, and when I try to start up Windows my laptop automatically turns off. And that means i can't start up Windows and now I'm locked myself out without the working laptop! Any help please?

That is one reason why in windows 7

you should be making regular backups.

did you make a system image ?

(and a start up repair disc)

    i bet not.

    if you did,

all you would have to do is install the system image

and everything would be back the way it was in no time.

    if you did not,

then you will have to now re-install the operating system.

There should be an option to go to the last known good start point. Select this, then google fopr a solution as to why the update failed.
