If I want to purchase a rifle in LA, CA is there a cheaper way than buying at local gun store? ~$2300 for LWRC?
Thanks for info. For a book.

In Kalifornia, the "Assault Weapon" laws may not allow a LWRC or any other normal semi-auto rifle unless it's one that. was grandfathered in before the ban. State law requires all transfers go through a FFL anyway, so you would need some great prices to make a out of store deal worthwhile. $2300
sounds obscene. Check Davidson's Gallery of Guns or GunBroker.com or other online firearms
sources for a better price and find a local dealer willing to do the transfer paperwork for a decent fee,
if you can find a Kalifornia legal rifle.

don't buy it in LA then. there is no law that forces you to buy guns in LA county... try OC or riverside. guns are a bit cheaper here and people are a bit more open towards them. you can open carry a gun from the car to the shop/range without scaring anyone. or Ventura county if you're closer to there. I haven't been out that way, its too far from my house. not actual distance, mostly just too much traffic.
if you really want to save, consider going out of state. you may buy a rifle or shotgun out of state and bring it back with you. the gun must be CA legal before entering CA. the calguns flowchart is a good guide to have: http://www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.pdf
alternatively order it online and find a local FFL that doesn't charge exorbitant transfer prices. if you cna find one, I couldn't, not within OC (my county). the cheapest I could find that's open to "Evil Black Rifles" was charging $85 for transfer. $55 their fee, and $30 for the FFL/DROS. many cheap FFLs do not transfer "Evil Black Rifles".
Source(s): I paid $600 for my CA-legal Wasr-10 AKM rifle. it was $425 at lanworldinc.com, then you toss in sales tax, shipping, mag lock, then FFL & DROS. this was in 2008. I actually ordered Oct 16 2008 but did not receive until March 23 2009. It's Obama's fault. I was going for a Kel Tec SU16 too but it ran out of stock, not taking back orders. by the time I came back in stock the price has jumped from $515 to $770. On Oct 16 2008 a wasr-10 should cost about $300. I only paid $300 more because I'm in CA, its not too bad compared to the CA going rate at the time- $1000. - Mr.357Lv 710 years ago
If you can find a place that will ship to CA (many will not because of being afraid of shipping an illegal weapon into the state, too much paper work, and trying to convince the people of CA that they need to change their gun laws) you might be able to order one online and save some money. Don't forget shipping and transfer fees.
