The logistic equation comes in both continuous and discrete versions, but both versions are referred to informally as "the logistic equation".

The continuous logistic equation is the same thing as the logistic differential equation:

    dx/dt = r*x*(1-x)

The discrete logistic equation (also known as the logistic map) is defined by a recurrence relation:

    x_(n+1) = r*(x_n)*(1 - x_n)

In the discrete logistic equation, x is only defined for discrete values of the independent variable.
