Has anyone tried the 338 lapua for long range? Plus side and down side?

The 4 furthest shots on a human target have all been made with the .338 Lapua. I believe all of them were in the neighborhood of 2400 meters+ in Afghanastan. The only downside I can think of is ammo cost. Starts at $4.50 a round and goes up from there. Recoil might be tough too, unless you have a good break like Savage.
