Sick Fantail Fish? sitting on bottom of tank..?

Last night our Fantail Fish was on his side at the bottom of the tank. We removed all of our fish, cleaned the tank and kept the sick one separate all night. We blew bubbles into the water that the sick one was in to air-ate the water and this morning he seemed better. I've since put him back into the fish tank with the others but he's still favouring the bottom of the tank (no longer on his side though) and his gills seem to be going in and out more rapidly than the others. He is moving more however and has eaten breakfast.

Any ideas as what to do or what it might be? Many thanks

I adopted goldfish and one of the fancy goldfish just sits on the bottom of the tank all day except during feeding time. He used to breathe heavily but now he doesn't but all day long he just sits on the bottom of the tank, moving occasionally but that's it. If I were you I would separate him for a while, if he shows symptoms of something else then you can treat him in a separate tank. But if after a few weeks he does not show signs of sicknesses, you may be able to put him back in the tank.

EDIT: The goldfish I adopted lived in a dirty tank, which likely had a lot of ammonia. If your fish are in a bowl the lack of filtration would cause the fish to become sick. And goldfish need aeration to. Goldfish are messy but great fish, better suited for a pond.

You give no Additional info regarding tank size etc the most likely thing it will be is water parameters Ammonia and nitrite and your fish has succumbed to poor water parameters.

Did you take all the water out is that is something you should never do.
