I think my VTEC is a dud? K20 si 02?

I have an 02 civic sí ep3, and I bought it from an old guy that hadn't driven it for like a year straight and I notice the engine getting loud, but not the vtec sound I'm looking for.

How can I tell if it's working or not? I read that the solenoid or something might be dull how can I fix that? Thanks

The EP Civic Si you won't hear VTEC kick in, because it has iVTEC. More so, it has the economy version of iVTEC. Basically, it doesn't have a set crossover point where you can hear it like the old B series engines.

if your vtec isn't working there would most likely be a check engine light on. i'm not sure about the k20a3 but the k20z3 has 2 steps in the vtec engagement which gives it a very smooth transition.

first off if you have a factory exhaust you wont hear v tec pop. then if your oil is low it wont kick in cause it runs off of oil pressure. if both of those are checked off then take the v tec solenoid and take it apart and clean it with brake cleaner. if that dont work then replace it.
